BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Grange Hill ready for final bell

Although I haven't seen it for many years, I spent my childhood watching Grange Hill. It was utterly ace.

I find it hard to believe that they're axing it because it no longer reflects children's lives. Don't they go to school anymore?

I have fond memories of the "sausage on a fork" opening, along with the "Chicken Man" theme song.

Some real classic moments and characters. Tucker, Gripper, Zammo, Gonch, Bridget McClusky, Roooland, Geoff "Bullet" Baxter, Maurice Bronson, and Danny Kendall, plus many many more.

I did enjoy watching the re-runs on a sunday morning back in the late 90's early 2000's.

They probably say it doesn't reflect kids lives as the hard hitting story-lines of drugs, teenage pregnancies and other things are not as shocking as they once were, and may be a bit more common place now than there were back then, plus of course, school isn't really that exciting, and really, how many kids want to go to school, come home, and then watch TV about a school, I think most kids would be more interested in facebooking and other internet type things, along with gaming, or popping out for a couple of pints

Probably dont have as much schoolyard stabbings, ipods and teenage pregnancies to fully reflect todays kids

A shame, it was an institution for me

I remember watching it before I started secondary school and used to worry it would be like that !!

Turned out it was much worse .. more work, more violent and lasted longer than 20 minutes...
