Sky + / Sky HD Question
I currently have the full package Sky + and would like to upgrade to the HD package. But can someone tell me how much it will cost me.
Someone says it will cost me £150 for a new HD box and £10 per month
That cant be right can it ???
Thought I would ask here, as I dont really want to ring Sky.

i went for the hd option - now pay 65 a month - in my opinion hd is not worth the extra 10 a month - The difference in quality is nowhere near as obvious as you might think it should be for the majority of programmes.

I cancelled the films - never watched them enough. Then cancelled the Sports - as it mainly shows 22 blokes crying at the slightest touch, and got the HD chucked in instead. Total cost is about £15 a month less.
There's not much extra on it. But, what is a lot better viewing wise.
Get the multi roomwith the old sky+ box, and your laughing. No problems with what the mrs's and kids want to watch when your in.

I don't think you are far wrong. We have Sky+, with multi room, on the whole package, and we are now paying £57 for that. It's just gone up again. We have pretty much now decided to get rid of the movie channels, as we rarely watch them, even though it doesn't make alot of difference.

£10 is alot for the number of channles, but they are increasing, and the quality is very good.
IMO, the Olympics in HD and things like Wimbledon and the majors in Golf in HD have been worth the price alone. You really need to see them to appreciate them.
But, I acknowledge that different people have different expectations.

I do however cringe when i recall how much we pay. We get all the Sky stuff inc HD and Multiroom, but apart from Sports and all that including the BT line rental comes to over £80 a month.
We'd have moved to Virgin by now if they'd got their finger out and supplied our area and we can't get Freeview here either.

One thing worth remembering is that ALL channels are of a far better qualtiy through the HD box.
I have the full package HD with + multiroom, not really sure how much I pay but the Olympics in HD on BBC and Eurosport is superb. BBC having slightly better colours than Eurosports for some reason!!!

On Sky, we have......
Channel4 HD
BBC HD
Sky One HD
FX HD
Sky Arts HD
Luxe TV HD
SkyPremiere HD
Sky Screen 2 HD
Sky Screen 2 HD
Sky Sports 1 HD
Sky Sports 2 HD
Eurosport HD
Sky Sports 3 HD
Rush HD
Discovery HD
NatGeo HD
History HD
SBO HD1
SBO HD2
OK, the last two are apy per view, but still you don't even get that option on Freesat. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of free HD coming either.
Makes Freesat look a little pricey IMO considering what you get is the same as a £15 feeview receiver plus 3 HD channels.
I'm not saying Sky HD is perfect value for money, but that was hardly a good argument put up against it

Only get HD if your tv is over 32". The bigger the tv the more the difference is in the HD channels.
Yes there aren't that many..but jesus! the difference between hd and the usual digital signal is amazing.
Before I got HD, I was a little ambivalent about its quality in comparison...but with a 50" screen the difference is amazing.
£10 a month and £200 (for the box, initially)..money well spent in my opinion.
My 2p.

I just hate subscriptions, contracts, direct debits and dealing with call centre monkeys... given that I don't watch much TV anyway, free is a good option even if I do only get a few channels.
Still eyeing up the Panasonic TH42PZ800B though... don't suppose anyone knows if it's worth the extra over the 80B or 85B do they?

In my opinion its not worth £10 a month, their are limited HD channels plus the difference is not as great as you would think.
Sky are just bleeding everyone dry and getting what they can while they can before HD is standard definition in this country just like it is in the USA, if i was to choose again i would leave it alone until most things are produced in HD along with the subscription and equipment coming down a lot further in price.

I know binning the movies doesn't save alot, but it will bring the price down to £50, slightly less than we are currently paying, and every little helps at the moment. As they are something we rarely bother with, I can live with getting rid for the moment.

We had sky movies, but dropped it, it was a waste of time & money, half the films, we'd allready seen, or we never found time to watch them.
We did an upgrade to sky+ my wife swears by it, ??
however were back to square one, loads of stuff on the HD, but never any free time to watch the stuff , so i cant see how we are supposedly benefiting lol

I was a HD sceptic too, my wife pushed for it. I have to say though, on some programs the difference is night and day, especially ones that have SD equivalents on at the same time so you can flick to that channel and then back again.
It's not just theh clarity, it's the colour reproduction and the ability to show the dynamic range better.
I do admit though, you need a seperate sound system to get the best out of it, so that's worth considering.
