Angry Barclaycard activation

Just phoned them up to activate my new card, fairly simple i thought, then they try and sell you some 'insurance' against identity fraud for £70 a year and didn't seem particularly happy when i said 'No thanks'

Do any other card companies do this?

I just tell them I already have it from my other card supplier(s) at which point they then move onto Card Protection "Already got it, chief" etc until they have nothing left to offer me.

I had this TWICE in 10 mins. First time to activate my new Debit card, then straight away on a different number but obviously the same call centre in Tamworth when actvating my new Barclaycard. Why can't they understand that when I'm phoning to confirm that I've recieved my card, I have absolutely zero interest in being sold anything?

I also used the "already got it" but it took a few attempts at saying that before they got the message. The second call was much quicker "No, someone's just tried to sell me this on another card and I wasn't interested then, either"

LloydsTSB are the same, so it looks like most banks now do this. I am sure they just have this card activation so that they can try and sell you something.

Anything like this I first say "I dont want it" but if they continue I just keep asking:

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

They have been trained to say anything except "no" so they will give you every answer they can think of first, when they do finally say "No its not free" then I say I dont want it as i first said at the start of the conversation.

Works great for warranty at comet, argors, currys, pcworld etc etc

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Is it Free?

Great fun everytime

MBNA do the same, never mention the cost until it comes to the qualifying question.
