I send some kit to Namibia which is routed through J'burg. It never arrived and my pal in Windhoek said most things are nicked in J'Burg. I used Royal Mail insured. They paid me half the value after 18 months.

So definitely use a decent courier or, ideally, find someone who is travelling and can take it as hand baggage. dl

not sure how much the sending costs but would it be worth while sending her the money to buy another computer out there to use, ok it may be more costly initially but if the one you send goes missing you face a long battle recovering any money plus have to replace it anyway?

I have sent two things to Jo'burg in the last couple of weeks. Both were held at customs and both had things missing when leaving customs. The second package we effectively had to bribe the officials to release it. This was with UPS.

I wasn't impressed.
