what used to be known as Special Clearance?
Now known as guaranteed path. You know it will clear , the next day, but you stll cannot draw on it for four whole days! At least, that's what lloyds do now, for £12

last time i tried this they said they would post it 1st class post to the issuing branch or some **** (can't recall if it was the same bank as mine). when i asked if it was registered post they said no just standard mail, I offered to pay for registered they said this wasn't possible. It took me weeks to get the cheque in the first place, with my luck it would have got lost in the post so I just sweated it out..

Once it has been "path guaranteed", it cannot then be stopped, so you can sleep better 3 nights earlier. THAT'S worth £12!
