China - friend or foe?
Just can’t make up my mind about China. Should we admire a regime that manages to control a population of 1.3 billion and accept that now and again there is a need for discipline and some pretty harsh measures against individuals that don’t tow the line – or whose houses are in the way of the main stadium!
Or are they a cold-blooded regime whose ambition is to be numero uno in the world in a generation or two. Who really don’t care about the individual but do just enough to stop the namby pamby West moaning too much.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a programme about the Chinese operations in Darfur. Supporting genocide really and trying to protect their oil interests. Enough to make me think that the West should pull out of the Olympics.
And we shouldn’t be taken in by the alleged terror attack. 2000 miles away from Beijing but a perfect excuse for the Chinese to fill the streets with security on the back of “Muslim terrorist danger” and legitimise a few lockings-up.
Anyway I’ll watch the opening ceremony but will get bored after 30 minutes as it drags on interminably with twee little dancing girls. Then see a few events and watch brave Paula get to a park bench after 12 miles.
I would think the London 2012 boys will be sh1tting themselves worrying about how that are going to match, let alone exceed, the show.
Any views? dl

Valid question David,
My personal opinion is that China is a sleeping giant awaiting the right time, to cause mayhem and global domination.
Maybe i've been watching too many james Bond films though!!!
I too will watch the first 1/2 hour of the olympics, but might flick back for some beach volleyball

China's chaning, the younger generation is only interested in making money. When the old dudes running the country all die the younger gen will change is all to co-inside with the west.
I'll be interested to see what China will do if Muslim terrorist attack China.
Send out the troops and finish the job the Americas can't LOL

China is just basically doing what a lot of western countries did 100-150 years ago. They just want a similar affluent lifestyle is all.
Hard to tell if you're talking about China or the US with this statement !!
Supporting genocide really and trying to protect their oil interests
