Default My Dog is ill

She got Kennel cough the other day and we got her to the vet straight away, he put her on meds and she seemed to pick up. Apparently it was her first day of it so we caught it very early.

Took her out yesterday and my dad bought one of those plastic launcher type things for tennis *****. With her being a bit ill I thought it best not to throw it far and was just throwing a few feet.

She stopped to look for it and it came from above and hit her in the eye.

She yelped a bit and then carried on wanting to play. Her eye was bloody and again I took her the vet. He checked her eye and said it looks ok, put some liquid in it and shone a blue light.

It was swollen but she was playful and seemed ok.

Last night and this morning she has been off her food and very lethargic, not like her at all. He eye looks less painful to me, but I spoke to the vet and he said this isn't normal bring her in.

Shes been feeling really sorry for herself and been very quiet.

My g/f has just run her up there so I'm sitting her waiting to see what he says.

Does anyone know how my pet insurance works for this kind of thing ? I don't care if it doesn't cover it, I'm willing to pay whatever it takes to make her better .. but if its claimable why not.

The Cough set us back £46 for meds and £26 for vets time, the first exam for her eye was £26 and today will be at least that..

Will let you know what happens..

Some vets work with insurers, so the bill goes direct to them. Others ask for the bill to be settled then forwarded to them for a refund.

Tuv got kennel cough too, was very annoyed that the person we went to see did not mention their dog was ill at the time. He is vaccinated now

Good luck with the vets though. Hopefully its just a combination of weather, and a bit groggy from kennel cough etc.

She hasn't been near any other dogs. I'm very careful with her when out.

Can it be caught by simply passing the same area a sick dog has been on ?

Dog's should be vaccinated yearly for kennel cough so the insurance may be funny about paying out. My dog caught a cold a few year's ago he is vaccinated against kennel cough and although it presented the same symptoms the vet told me he actually had a common cold which can be passed on from humans!!which was treated with anti biotic's

Vaccinated and got it, without contact with any other dogs? Second opinion needed maybe ?
Without wanting to sound rude, you know its not included in the normal jabs yeah? Its a nasal shot.

Yeah .. I think it cost £45 .. Shes seen two different vets now, same place.

I wasn't there so I dont know how they gave it to her. They did say it was optional.. I thought it better to be safe ...

I thought she had something in her throat but he said it was the cough.

Shes only been the woods in the last few weeks and not seen any other dogs. How long can it take to come on ?

Shes on a couple of different meds now, so hopefully what ever it is will clear up.

its horrible seeing her unhappy .. god help me if I have kids.

Good luck today. Nothing worse than when one of your pets is ill.

Sorry for her, it is not surprising she is a bit down, that must be pretty miserable for her.

Hope she perks up soon anyway
