Need to earn more money help me out lads
i am currently a field sales rep for a giftware company earning 30k basic and no comission really. I have just bought a house with my girlfriend and need to earn more money.
I dont mind changing industrys but i would really like to earn quite a bit more. i have been told advertising pays well. What other sales jobs pay well with still 30k or more basic but better commision?
In the meantime I want a part time job for in the evenings or weekends. Any one got any ideas i was thinking of a driving job or a warehouse job.
Thanks

You have to wonder if this poster is suggesting moving into the pharmaceutical industry as a sales representitive: or whether he is suggesting some part-time pharmaceutical sales to supplement your current income..... Youd certainly make more in the car park than you could in the bar!

30k+ at 23 isnt bad going -you won't easily get significantly more unless you retrain as a solicitor or something which will obviously take years. Also the jobs market isnt exactly booming right now..

30k is good for a basic.
Could try IT sales (software/hardware) basic will be lower, but commision is good. A mate of mine earned of 100k last year but that was selling a new product

I'm assuming that as you work in sales you dont have any other formal qualifications or skills ? ( sorry to generalise, but if you were a qualified plumber, engineer etc... I imagine you'd be looking for work doing this ? )
At your age I really dont think anyone is going to pay you much more without a specific qualification or experience - you 'may' get more in another sales job, but if it is higher commission with a much lower basic, then you could easily end up worse off.
As an example, for me to qualify as an engineer took 4 years of studying - as a graduate engineer, I could expect to get around £20K as a starting salary at your age - OK, I would end up earning a lot more with promotions and more experience, but the money you are earning now is pretty good.
What you need is not more money, buy to spend less of the money you are earning. Unless you really want to be working 60 or 70 hours a week, which wont last long.

I started off in Pharmaceuticals as a QA technician on a whopping 14,000 a year lol ...... 10 years later I am a Regulatory Affairs Manager in the Pharma industry and earn considerably more...... the thing is that people will not throw money at you for the sake at it..... you need to prove to them you are worth it through experience or qualifications......
30k at 23.... I wish I earned that when I was 23!

What would be useful is if you break down all your outgoings and see where the money is going.
I assume that you have quite a large mortgage as this seems to be the reason for you wanting to earn more ? Perhaps it would have been better to rent, or if you really fetl you had to buy, then get somewhere cheaper, or if you couldnt do that then you'll have to make sacrifices from other areas to pay the mortgage.
Does your girlfriend work, and if so is she contributing towards the household expenses, if not, why not ?
I agree with #23 - I'll bet there are very few 23 year olds on £30K, let alone more - most will have either just graduated, or only been in a career for a short time, so arent going to be earning loads.
Money isnt that important though, as long as you have enough to pay for a reasonable lifestyle, and if you find that 30K at your age isnt enough, then lower your expectations of the sort of lifestyle you think you need.
I earn decent money, and only work part time hours for it - I could work loads more hours and earn more, but the money would either just sit in my bank, or get spent on stuff I really dont need. I'm sure I could quite easily spend lots of money on flasher cars and gadgets, but they're not really there for anything other than trying to impress other people.
There comes a point ( which you wont have reached yet as you are still young ) where you realise quality of life and free time is much more important than money.

My g/f is an accountant. Shes 23 has a degree and several other exams .. names of which I have no chance in remembering .. shes only on 18k at the moment.
Obviously the futures bright if all goes well .. but 30k at 23 is excellent .. even as a fantastic sales type person!

i agree 30k is a quite a good basic. I have a mortgage and also a loan from when i was younger i really want to try and pay off.
Is there any part times jobs you think could be worth doing. Takeaway delivery driver or something dont they normally pay cash.
Just could do with earning a extra couple hundard a month.

I think that the more money you earn the more you spend, you get slightly more money so you get a slightly bigger house, a slightly better car, eat in more expensive restaurants, spend slightly more on holidays.
The house insurance comes through for £400 you pay it (its only £400 you think to yourself), but when you had less money you would a spend a few days ringing round and end up only paying £150,
Cut your outgoings and you will easily be a few hundred quid a month better off!
