Would you recommend a House Alarm ?
We've been thinking about having a house alarm fitted. Although it would be only in one room down stairs (front room with TV etc) and for the rooms up stairs as we have the dog .. who roams though the rest of the down stairs...
Obviously one of the factors of getting a dog was for security .. much more of a deterrent than an alarm .. but with all the stories of people being broken into recently ... there's no harm in getting opinions !
Cheers guys

Sensors that dont detect movement at dog level. Alternatively, get the whole house alarmed properly and set it not to detect the PIRs in the rooms to which the dog has access. That way, when youre all out, youre still able to have a fully alarmed house.

I cant understand why you havent got one to be honest, and i certainly wouldnt be asking that sort of question over the internet.
we got one as soon as my dad was burgled, have a look on your road and you will see everyone has one.

So, I'm not particularly in favour or against, just putting the 'why bother with one' viewpoint ....

I have done some crime prevention stuff and aparently the one thing most burgalers say puts them off from trying a house is an alarm.
If it make them walk past your house to someone elses then it has to be a good thing. Saying that i haven't got one but have got insurance so that does me.

well the reason i got one is my dad got burgled, and afterwards you notice all the house that have one yours doesnt .
he was an iron monger for 40 years and dead handy at diy, we had loads of securioty [padlocks on the shed, and quality locks on the doors, security lights at the side and the back, a dog and the window they got in through had the handle screwed down.
and they broke the top window and pulled the screws thru,
they have been lucky the only previous time they have been done ever was when i was a kid, and i caught them then
i opnened the curtains dead fast and shouted at the top of my voice and they legged it.

If they want to get in as above I dont think an alarm would bother them .. how many people actually pay any attention to an alarm ?
Its a cost vs purpose for me.. I'm willing to spend if its going to make a difference.. so far I'm leaning towards not bothering ...
