Default Any drainage experts in?

Guys

I have a suface water drain in my back garden that runs under my extension into the main drain. Over the past few months lots of leaves/moss etc has collected in the drain. I recently took the cover off and scooped out all the crap but it really still really stinks.

I dont think theres any blockage there as the water runs away fine but I cant put any drain chemical type stuff down there because its a suface water drain so what are you suggestions to get rid of the smell?

pressure washer? ...and a cover over the gully to stop future leaves and moss would be a good idea

As above.

Rubber gloves to remove stinking debris and a hosepipe to flush things through. If a hosepipe isn't "man enough" then fill up a dustbin with water and tip this all in at once. Fun job

What sort of smell? as a surface water drain shouldn't really smell. Is it rotting leaves or ****? Are you talking about a small gully or a manhole cover?

Its just a small gully with a plastic criss cross covering with my down pipe going into it. The smell is just like rotting leaves. Cant smell it normally, just when i stick the hose down there to try and clear it out, then it kicks up

Top tip, never be tempted to turn the rods anticlockwise when rodding your drains. If you ever done it you'll know what I mean

obviously depends which end you have on the rods, but yes - pressure can be entertaining! ...as can watching someone on the ground floor clear a backed up soil pipe in a block of flats! nice

Have you had your arm right down there - past the elbow?

If not, its not been cleared out enough

Yukky I know, just grit your teeth shut your eyes and imagine shoving your arm up a cow's ****
