Default To catch a predator: will it be disturbing??

Whilst get my daily does of Family Guy . I've just seen a trailer for "To Catch a Predator". The premise being they tape/ film peados trying to chat up under the age of consent children (aren't most? but anyway i digress.

The question is, is this scare tactic TV? or is there actual public interest in this type of program.

Mind you it is an American produced program.

What a horrible idea.

At what point during filming do they think "hmmm lets step in"... when the person has his **** in his hand or what.

Unless its a set up, in which case, what kids are they actually going to use as bait? And what kind of parent will allow thier kids to be used as bait?

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

think iv seen something like this before

the producers work with online paedophile (spelling!) agencies that work together to prevent online...flirting or whatever they call it. The agencies take it possible suspects and monitor their profiles online etc, and then confront them

Just my sensationalist headlining, (hmm i wonder if i can get a job for the red top)

From the FX website.

""To Catch a Predator" is a series of hidden camera investigations devoted to the subject of identifying and detaining potential child sexual abusers who contact minors (or individuals whom they believe to be minors) over the Internet for sexual liaisons. The investigations, which have all been reported by Dateline correspondent Chris Hansen and producer Lynn Keller, are conducted as an undercover sting operation with the help of online watchdog group Perverted-Justice. Since the third installment, law enforcement and other officials have also been involved in the operation, leading to the arrests of most individuals caught in the sting. In an interview with NPR's Neal Conan on Talk of the Nation, Chris Hansen emphasizes that the subjects of his program be labeled as sexual predators: "We don't label these guys as pedophiles. Pedophiles have a very specific definition, people who are interested in prepubescent sex. What we're talking about here are potential predators"

You do have to wonder about some people. There was a period where I would recommend that anyone who chatted on the internet and subsequently met someone should insist upon photo identification with proof of age, but these people KNEW they were supposedly 13 years old and yet they still turned up at their house with condoms.

Asking for (and receiving) trouble.
