Default Help finding Dire Straits song

Can anyone point me in the direction of the following song:

"Local Hero/Wild Theme" of which there is a live version on the Sultans of Swing album. Basically, I'm trying to get that version of the song but without the live clapping, etc in the background. All other versions I can find are noticeably slower whereas the live version on S-of-S is quicker and more upbeat.

Thanks

Edit: This Version is the exact one I want a studio recording of.

So you want live or studio?

I've got both on tape somewhere in the loft

Sultans of Swing was the first album, way before Local Hero.

Do you mean the version on Alchemy?

It's track 16 on this ablum: Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits

I want a version that sounds like that but is studio recorded and not live.

Ah, sorry my mistake, I was thinking of the first album that had SoS on it but was called Dire Straits.

Hang on while I listen to the ones I got.

Just listened to the version from "Private Investigations: The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler". It's the one that starts really slow but then is very fast and upbeat from about halfway. The live version is faster than the slow bit but doesn't break into the fast bit at any point. It's exactly what I'm after save for the clapping and cheering.

I've got three versions all live, have you heard the one of this bootleg?
It is live but the crowd is very quiet.

Hmm think I've heard that somewhere, maybe on one of the solo albums. Problem is there are umpteen versions of it; very slow, accoustic, live slow, live fast, unplugged, studio etc.

Track is also known as "Going Home"

Is it this one? YouTube - [Mark Knopfler]Going Home

(since when did they disable fast forwarding in youtube )

edit: Just realised; I don't think its the right one

Don't think I've heard that version Hank. Currently listening to Sharks link but I suspect it's the version from Private Investigation. Point taking re: fast forward - very annoying!!!

Shark that's the same version as on PI. Outstanding to listen to but not what I need as the first 2:28 is just too slow and plinky-plonky

Is it going to be your entrance music to the card table, like a boxer going into the ring?

This Version is the one I want but without the associated live noise (clapping, etc). It's that little bit faster than other version but doesn't break into the part that rolled with the credits in the film and, crucially, doesn't have any of the long lingering pauses. It's the perfect tempo....but live

zip, would I be correct in the assumption that that first and last link have multiple version of the song on it?

It would appear to be the case, but I thought at least one of the versions would be up-tempo enough

I assume it's a more terrifying arena he'll be walking into.....

I reckon it will be something 'wedding related' if Kenny's resorting to Dire Straits

If it is wedding related why not give the version you have to your band & get them to rehearse it ?

That is, if you are having a band.

As far as I know Dire Straits only recorded the tune once in the studio (for the movie soundtrack), but DS/Knopfler have been playing it at the end of concerts for decades since, changing and evolving it all the time.
So unless you can get a bootleg that's been lifted directly from the sound engineers desk at a gig from that particular tour, you're pretty much stuck I'm afraid.

I have the Local Hero soundtrack on vinyl... Track 2 is a studio recording of wild theme ( well there's no clapping on it anyway ) and it does differ slightly from the live recording.

You can get it on CD here.

I've either found or been sent (I can't remember which, you guys have been really helpful) a live version where there is only clapping at the start and end. You can't hear the crowd during the song so I can probably 'clip' the file at each end and hey presto
