Default Flexible Working?

Anybody made a sucessful application under the new flexible working scheme??

I work my full quota of hours in 4 days now (I work extra each day), but my employer is now adjusting my holiday and bank holiday entitlement down to suit (basically 4/5ths). Is this right?? I can understand the holdays coming down, but the bank holidays?

Anybody know much about this??

Cheers,

Matt.

We work a 4.5 day week here, and have done for years. Standard rate is 22.5 days holiday per year (although this goes up with long service), and it would be 25 if we worked a 5 day week , So I would say its pretty standard.

That said its doesn't touch the bank holidays. So I would chaeck that out - in fact, here, Bank holidays are given in the whole regardless. For example, on Easter weekend we finish @ 1pm on Thursday rather than 1pm friday, thus giving us the "entire" bank holiday

If you work part-time or "compacted hours" here, you get your annual leave in hours not days. Means that you should get the same amount of hours as someone else who works equally over 5 days.

It depends if they count a day as how many hours you do, or how many hours in a "normal" day as to whether you are being ripped off or not.

I just dont do much each day

Im sitting here now, going home in 30 mins. Bored senseless!

With regards to holidays, it should be worked out in hours so a 4 day 40 hour week would accrue the same amount of holiday pay as a 5 day 40 hour week.

Broken into days, 4 weeks would be 16 days not 20 days, based on a 4 day working week, its the same.

Bank holidays etc though should remain 100% of all such holidays. You should be entitled to the same as them.

Just taken advice from ACAS, then searched the net under "compresed working". The conclusion is that I will get 4/5th of holiday and bank holiday entitlement!!!!!!!!!

WHAT !!!
So you do a full working week, in less days, so certain bank holidays you dont get now? Something has to be wrong there. Or its just a confusing was of wording it all.

We have the same here, I worked 4 days part-time, Tuesday - Friday. It worked out OK because whenever it was a bank holiday on a Monday, I was off anyway, which meant I could use those days any other time as part of my annual leave entitlement. The only time I had to use my BH entitlement for actually BHs was Christmas and Good Friday.

Worked in an office years ago where we had a full-time secretary and a part-timer who only worked 10-3 Tuesday to Thursday. Whenever there was a bank holiday she'd take a 'day in lieu' as the full-timer had the day off. No matter how many times it was explained to her, she just couldn't understand that as she wasn't due to work those days she wasn't due the time off . In the end, the boss adjusted her annual pay rise ro take account of her 'extra' holidays - he never told her so she thought she'd got away with it

They can not do this legally. Stand your ground: is the person responsible an imbecile?

That's how I saw it. I know I didn't have an "extra" day off like everyone else, but it meant I could put all my "Monday" BHs together and have a week off!

But you are still doing the hours. Holiday entitlement based on days assumes a standard length day: if you compress the full working week into two days do these buffoons really think that you should only receive 40% of your holiday entitlement?
