Do they jam mobiles in/around hospitals?
It's driving me potty as everyone wants to know how my daughter is (pneumonia/empayema/collapsed lung - nightmare) but I've never seen reception so patchy in any similarly large city. One second you have a bar or two and can send a text, then nothing - and that's without moving the phone OR transmitter!
We do all our calls from the caf' a few metres away from the ward, but, knowing we are all surrounded by thousands of radio waves , what is the current 'party line' on mobile 'interference'? We all know they can crash planes and blow up petrol stations, but can they REALLY confuse pulse measuring machines etc ?!

Not in the hospital I was in last week (to visit my niece, who also has pneumonia/collapsed lung funnily enough).
Also, there was a report published last year or the year before which said that mobiles did not interfere with hospital equipment at all. It made the news as the company that supplies phone services to the NHS make a shed load of money from it and the report basically said that people could use their own phones.
Obviously, individual hospitals may have taken measures to restrict the signal, you never know.
Geezer

Sorry to hear about your daughter matey, I hope she gets better soon
As far as I'm aware the only mobiles that work in hospitals and don't blow up the machinery are those owned by the consultants, they seem to work fine, they must have special ones
They all use them in Holby too but someone told me that that isn't real life

My Dad has been in Clatterbridge having Chemo & Radiotherapy and he has been using his mobile phone (along with other patients too) on and around the ward
However down by the cafe and some of the Radiotherapy rooms the signal goes completley and doesnt seem to come back on until he goes outside
Sorry to hear about your daughter, hope she is doing as well as can be and makes a speedy recovery

Firstly, jamming is illegal as stated above and secondly we don't do anything to block the signal. Only problem is, is the amount of shielding in areas with XRay machines which can interfere with the signal. Some networks are better than others though. Where I am, Orange are the worst for reception.
And no they don't interfere with the equipment, use mine with impunity whenever I get a chance and no-one's died yet...
But can you imagine all the patients sat around the wards texting all day? Would drive me up the wall and the Patientline scam would be a non-starter too!
Good luck with your daughter mate.

I don't think they do block them. As when my mum fractured her spine she was using her mobile a fair bit from her bed - staff didn't seem that bothered either.
However, a long time ago I recall trying to a use a mobile in a shopping mall, and it said "not allowed" everytime I tried to dial. Walked outside and it worked fine, walked back in it died again. Strange, as it had a full signal!

Its probably not so much deliberate jamming Diesel so much as the effect on the phones of the equipment. Can't be helped of course.
Glad your daughter is better, hope it contnues like that.
