Had to chuckle yesterday, Gordon Brown said "Focus owners would be better off under the new tax bands". Cameron pointed out that of the 40 different models of Focus, 37 would be higher tax and 3 would be lower.

You have to love the way that politicians use stats to argue their point, he wasn't actually lying coz the statement was true, but very misleading.

How very true, how many time have i heard a politician say something with gravity and convition and have tto think, hold on a min, that's not right, They lie, mislead and fudge facts and figs to suit themsleves and thier party.

I take pretty much everything with a pich of salt - I also always enjoy listening to the likes of John Humpries picking their, ststements agruments and falsehoods apart - thank god for the likes of him!

We bought an 04 2.5 petrol X trail.

It is flipping 2wd 99% of the time.

It is basically a big estate car that carries our family and the bumph.

Next year our tax will double to over £400 and I am livid.

It's just a flipping estate car.I presume Volvo family will get shafted too along with Espace family etc.

The plan was to keep it for 10 years which I thought was better than keep buying new cars that increase pollution in their production.

I am sick to death of this lot

Mind you,I think it is yet another lemon of a policy which will only add to how much the country detests them. Not good if you are trying to attract voters

Ha! Looks like the are screwing the whole car market,big,small,4x4,used cars.

So how much will that cost the economy.

Gordon Brown's car tax rise hits 4x4 sales - Telegraph

Just how daft are they???????

You could argue to the policy has worked

Type of car Fall in sales (May 2007 - May 2008)

Super mini eg Ford Fiesta -0.9%

Smaller family eg Ford Focus -8.3%

Larger family eg BMW 3 Series -4.5%

Sports eg Audi TT -14.5%

4x4seg Honda CR-V -18.3%

AVERAGE -3.5%

Of course given the economic climate, new car sales will one of the first things to suffer.

And by bringing in these new Tax rises, is actually going to cost the Government dear.
New car sales down. We (British car buyers) pay a hell of a lot of money in VAT on new car prices.

Wonder what Tax they'll increase/bring in to compensate?

Wont need to - It will be recovered in showroom tax .

Of course this is on *new* car sales. So the retrospective aspect is completely irrelevant.

Well, maybe like so many companies, maybe car companies will also think stuff you UK and your crippling taxes that screw people and our businesses.

Think everything Labour have tried recently has not 'mildly annoyed' people/companies,it has had serious economic cosequences in a backward way.Look at all the companies looking to get out of the Uk

it does come to something when your own party members say you can't do that like some have been on this tax issue, i doubt any other country would suffer an additional tax on vehicles that have been already bought which is what the new increases do.
It makes me wonder whn are the Mp's going to start travelling around in Priuses etc and lead from the front

Well I find standing at a bus stop in the p!ssing rain and standing up on a White knuckle ride(or peeling chewing gum off the **** of my trousers) quite a challenge in the morning.
Perhaps the politicians would. (if they did ever get on a bus)
