pigeons and snails......what gets rid of them?
i have 2 and a half pairs of pigeons and a pair of magpies in my garden...who ate my cabbages?
i planted 12 and all the middles were eaten in a morning. the birds have always nested in the garden next door. am i allowed to get rid of them (not the magpies)and how?
plus, does anyone have a tried and tested method for getting rid of snails?
i have tried pellets and stuff but the rain means you have to constantly re do it, any ideas?
thanks

Pallets attract the snails aswell. Snails aren't supposed to like eggshells and then theres salt that they hate too.
Magpies i'm not sue about, maybe a scarecow or a few cats.

Well I came across a HUGE snail on my path last summer. I'm sick of my plants getting chewed so I picked it up and whanged it as far as I could. Weird thing was, about three weeks later it was back on my path again! It looked up at me reproachfully and said "what did you do that for?"

Hint: snails conduct electricity
The Great Little Electric Fencing Co. - Home of SnailAway
(Come to think of it, so do pigeons if the voltage is high enough... )

Chap down the road used to shoot the magpies with his airgun... then he used to hang the carcass in the garden to deter the partner of said dead magpie

as for the slimey little pests, i know that slugs like yeast so some gardeners shallowly bury little dishes of beer .. the slugs are then attracted and drown themselves...
might work for slugs with houses

Sorted our snail problem last summer - go out after dark (especially if it's damp or raining) with a torch and just pick up all the buggers up. Bung 'em in a carrier bag and jump on them. Two nights of doing that and no more plant eating problems for a few months - I think we got over 200 snails and our garden isn't that big. Same again this year I think - the neighbours will think we've lost the plot again

SJ_Skyline and myself do some adventure racing. The Breacon Beacons is our first race of the year, so it's 5 hours of XC running and mountain biking trying to hit as many checkpoints (CPs) as possible in that time. The CPs furthest from the start (or up the biggest hills) have the highest value. We've ditched the kayaking option this year as neither of us can paddle to save our lives
