Default Dental implants?

Anyone had them done?
How about at the back?
How much?
How good?

I got a kick in the face about 15 years ago, lost one and two of those left were damaged and time has taken it's toll and I think I'm about to lose at least one of those which will leave me nothing but gum back back left.

Any experiences...?

My wife places them £1800 each fully restored (including tooth). But you may pay up to £2500 if you live down south. If it's at the top you may need a sinus lift (£1000). If your teeth have been out for 15 years you may have lost bone and need a bone graft (£500 +). You can place two implants and have a bridge with three teeth on it etc.
Finance available subject to status ;D
If you are near Glasgow PM me.

Whoah! Sinus lift sounds a bit complicated but at least mine are on the bottom.

£1800 is a bit out my price range unless I could do it pound a week

I was thinking 4-600 a piece - I've been watching too much extreme makeover...

Thanks for that, soggy weetabix for me for while then...

It does seem expensive but equipment training etc costs a lot. We do finance over 5 years at a good rate. We had a woman in for a full case (full top and bottom) at 45K. It depends how it affects your life really. We get people in who can hardly eat or have no confidence because they have slack dentures etc.

Yeah, fully appreciate that. Am seeing a consultant about a surgical extraction for the half buried one so I'll see what he reckons the options are.
I'm in Edinburgh now so may well be in touch.

Thanks for the pointers (love the mix of folks on here and the fact you can get info about everything, some of it good )

Don't bother - I lost 3 at the back, and once the gums harden up you can manage.

I got loads missing at the back, and wonky fronts. Would love to get them sorted one day, but as I get older, I think **** it

Implants in this country are well overpriced IMO.
Having said that - I would like to have a swimming pool in my house.
If you need a few done - probably better examining the option of going elsewhere.
Definitely a case of prevention is better than cure though.

Yes, we have seen a good few people in tears who have thought the same.

Yes, if I knew then that supplementing my income by working in the pit at an Almighty concert and getting kicked in the face by a crowd surfer as he came over would leave me with future bills of hundreds if not thousands, i would have stayed at home that night....

My last spat saw me crack/chip 4 of the molars, 2 top and 2 bottom. My dentist pal I think killed them, shaved them and stuck gold crowns on them. All I know now is I can chew steel where before I reacted to ice lollies.

I know it wasn't cheap but then again it was well worth it to match the rest of my sparkling gems.

Jer, what's the story/price with decent crowns? Maybe not as bling as spoon but white ones, can you bridge off a crown?

They are hardly visible unless I smile like I'm trying to snap my cheeks.

No one has a 100% success rate in this field.(AFAIK)
Obviously a failure will be better dealt with locally.
That is not to say that one can't decide that the risk of failure is outweighed by the cost saving though.

Plenty are going abroad to have it done, about £800 each. The charges here in the UK are silly IMO for what looks like a very simple Engineering Technique - a Heli-Coil in the jaw bone, allow it to bond with the bone, screw a peg in and mount a crown on top .......... it's where the big money is for Dentists.

It will go the way of Lazer eye treatment and Dentists will start out-bidding each other on price .... 2 years time you will get them for £500 a peg IMO.

.
Lets hope its where the money is - my ex needs all the money he can get for maintenance and uni support payments let alone his own expensive tastes!!

Seriously though - while it is a 'simple Engineering Technique' there is also the time factor. I have no idea how long the procedure takes but it is a 'surgical' procedure that will need sterility and preparation beforehand and then the actual procedure which I am sure is not quick. All of this takes time and there cannot be short cuts taken. It is the surgery time that mounts up the costs.

I would definitely go for a place that offers experience and a proven track record though for anyone looking to go down this route.

Hankscorpio

If you lost them through trauma and the rest of your teeth are in good order then you might satisfy the criteria (Royal College of Surgeons 1997) for free NHS dental implants.

Usually co-ordinated through a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry (like me), ask your dentist or consultant oral surgeon

I had my front 4 teeth veneered just before christmas. Total bill was £3500 (Each veneer was £700) Only one of them had to be pinned as there was not enough good tooth left to bond to. No more crooked teeth for me

@ midlife - the rest of them are pretty shagged too, my hygiene regime teens into 20's left a lot to be desired....

Thanks for the comments peeps, implants are off the agenda for the moment, will have to wait till I've lost them all and it's a bit cheaper
