Default Samurai Swords

Isn't the sale of them banned now?

BBC NEWS | UK | Ban on samurai swords becomes law

This shop in Woking is still selling them.

I did read the link before I posted it.

I can only assume that you refer to the comment about it being okay if it's for reinactment (like blank firing guns are if you work for a tv/film production company) or for private collections. As it's been half-term week, the shop has been full of (teenage) school kids buying them. Maybe they have a private collection, but I doubt they do. Call me cynical

You don't. When I was younger (as in 13 or so) I just liked to collect those kind of things.

Looking around my study I am probably going to go to jail for 50 years. I can see: Lock picks, Pick Gun, Shurikens (various sizes), Airguns, Wooden Nanchuks and a pair of Chinese string shoes (not illegal, I'm just ashamed that I had them when I was younger ).

I have a similar collection. Not for intending to hurt anybody with but just a teenage passion of mine

i thought you were questioning whether then ban was now in force, but yes i was referring to ..."Having undertaken a wide consultation we recognise that it is the cheap and easily available samurai swords that have been used in crime. That is why we have made sensible exemptions for genuine enthusiasts"...

PS - you're cynical

Its only the modern reproductions that are cheap. They only resemble the sword in shape, nothing else. Calling them samurai swords is just wrong.

A genuine Katana can cost tens of thousands. Even a modern traditionally made Shinsakuto Katana can take from a couple of months to year or more to make, and is obviously very expensive as a result.
There was a program on telly just a few days ago on the subject

a real Katana will cost around 1-2k all of mine are hand forged and finished off with a 12 stage sharpening, so very strong and sharp. they are real works of art, i also have a 100 yo one too which is lovely.

what is ironic, is that ebay banned samurai swords

but if you type in "ninja swords" you can get loads

if the kids are buying "samurai" ones to kill people, they will just buy "ninja" ones instead

in fact typing in "sword" into ebay.co.uk just brought up over 729 items for me, madness !

once "ninja" swords get banned, they will start buying the medieval jobbies lol

Other point though is that most people who want to knife someone will use a kitchen knife or something small that they can hide in their jacket or pocket. Not many people run around the streets with samurai swords as its a bit obvious.
