Question

I'm looking for some quality sword fighting action films, anything from Samurai or Ninja style action to Chow Yun Fat type modern stuff.

Any recommendations?

Preferably the real McCoy Japanese or asian stuff and not crappy US remakes.

So Equilibrium is out for the practice sword duel and the very short sword fight near then end then!

Crouchng Tiger, Hidden Dragon is probably the best modern film with big sword fights... oh and had Chow Yun Fat in it as well...

Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai" - absolute classic with some great swordplay. Another of his films (Throne of Blood?) features and Iaijustsu duel (face off, draw and cut in one motion) which is amazing.

I think the above are both B&W. If you want colour -try "Kagemusha" (not sure how much swordplay there is in that though or "Ran" althoough that features some large scale battles as well.

If you don't know these films check them out!
