Devil's Swimming Pool
The Devils's Swimming Pool
In Zimbabwe, Africa, you will find the magnificent Victoria Falls at a height 128m.
The location is known as 'The Devil's Swimming Pool'. During the months of September and December, people can swim as close as possible to the edge of the falls without falling over! (unless you vote for the wrong party?)
Would you dare?

I've been to the Falls but never knew that existed
Are you sure it's for real? Wouldn't get me in!! It was bad enough standing on the path at the top.
Anyway the river has Bilharzia

PMSL at those sticks! I doubt their efficacy against lions if I'm being honest!
Kind like when While-e-Coyte tries to protect himself from the falling boulder with a cocktail umbrella in the Road Runner cartoons

Mate had a full on cuddle with a Tiger whilst out in Thailand a couple of weeks back. Upon questioning it he tells me that they are drugged up hence the photos he had. Kinda explains it, in no way do I believe anybody would feel comfortable stroking or cuddling a tiger or lion otherwise.

When I was there (Decemeber early 90's) loads of people were doing this. The water going over the falls is quite slow, as it's just before the rainy season (which is Jan to April? I forget exactly). The falls are quite wide and there are little islands so you can swim between them and look over the edge. Up on the top of the falls the water is very slow, it's only when it gets down into the ravine below that it can get very fast (only parts mind you) , which is where the rapids are and the white water rafting
I couldn't beleive it, but they were there still. We were on the opposite side. Incidently on the opposite side there is rain forest, it's only like a mile square, but it's there because the spray from the falls is permenant (more or less), supposidly it contains some unique plant species found. So there in the middle of the bush is a rain forest, plus some damn huge baboons just sitting by the paths.
We were told that the Devils cauldron is the part below the falls because it where the water all comes together. The cliffs (?) are like a huge C shape, so the part in the middle is where all the water comes together. Hence the name.
