Default TV Connection Q's

I have this tv waiting to be installed 47PFL9632D/10 - Flat TV - TVs - Televisions - Philips

I want to hook up my ps3, and sky HD, and the philips 5.1 surround sound, along with my pc.

Now I must be turning into my dad as I have no idea what cables to buy.

I also dont want to fall into the trap of spending hundreds per cable if I am not going to notice the difference.

I want them all to run HD, so I'm assuming I need HDMI cables, the question is, what ones and where from?

Also, what cable do I need to connect the tower of the pc to the tv?

Sorry if you are all sick to death of TV questions but I'm running out of time as Sky are turning up on Monday to set their part up and I need the rest in place before hand.

Thanks

Fitz

Youll need HDMI cables for the PS3 and the Sky HD. Use either an optical or co-axial audio cable from your Sky Box to your amplifier for true Dolby Digital sound.
If you PC has a graphics card with a HDMI output use that, failing that you'll have to use S-video

As above, but either use a DVI-HDMI cable or 15-way PC video cable for the PC as S-video will not give you the best output for your PC. Also you will need either PHONO cables for the sound or an optical lead (If your PC sound card supports it) to get sound.

on a side note, don't be fooled by spedning large sums of money on hdmi cables, a decent insulated cable shouldn't be more than a £10.

kenable - for cables, networking and peripherals

kenable - for cables, networking and peripherals (Scroll to digital audio)

In the old days of analogue cabling the cable could make a huge difference and the delicate RF wave-form could be influenced by everything from resistance to radio interference. With digital, 8x 1's and 0's are 8x 1's and 0's, no matter what cable you use. Decent plugs and a good connection (well made) are obviously still preferable. I use cables from the place above for a couple of quid each and am more than satisfied, and I'm an idiot who once bought an Audioquest Quartz Hyperlitz 3 Triple Balanced for £120

According to the manual it has 3 HDMI's so I'd use those for Sky, PS3 and jpor is right -get a digital video card for the PC & a DVI to HDMI cable (or adapter) and use that for the PC. If you can get a didgital co-ax (not optical) sound card, then do that, otherwise the regular analog audio.

SVideo from a PC is pants.

Not sure what the Phillips 5.1 thingy is though....

Cheers for all the info boys, I ended up getting 2 hdmi cables for the ps3 and sky, and a dvi to hdmi for the pc. I'll use the scart for the dvd.

The only thing left is to put the thing together!

Thanks again

Fitz
