I'm with BT at the mo with basic phone package and broadband, normal monthly price including line rental.. about £40-45... don't use the phone much, been with BT about tree years too.

now, we're moving house soon and want to play off BT against other phone/BB providers. As when i spoke with BT last year they said being a customer fo a couple of years they should offer better price and package to keep us as a loyal customer....... is this correct?


what should I expect to get out of BT?


Ideally want to keep with BT to keep our home phone number and TBH happy with BT Broadband as you don't get pop ups etc like we used to get with NTL.


I take it the new BT packages are all BT Home Hub?


whats the best deals out there that i can trade off to BT?


Or has anyone else been in the same position as us?

For £30 per month with Virgin (formerly NTL) you get:

Phone

Broadband - 2mb I think

Medium TV package - plenty of channels.

BT are the last resort as far as I'm concerned. Sh1te.

can get broadband for nothing with sky, still means you have bts phone line but as long as you have no problems with bt (ie no need to ring them) then you should be alright

Firstly having done some research just recently myself about this as we are moving provider.. I wonder why you pay £40 a month does that include any calls you make as the middle package with free evening and weekend calls plus BB upto 8meg is only £10.50 line rental and £17.99 BB plus you can have second line with evening and weekend calls too for free.

Talktalk {who we are with now} our service was great until they upgraded our line then the problems started, when you call people up and know more about the problem then they do it is always a worry, plus if I have to listen to thunderclap newman many more times I shall scream
having been with them for over 18months now I would try to avoid them unless you are feeling brave, it could be trouble free or not but they mean well

Virgin looked at them as a resonable safe bet but thought giving to the fact the cost isn't much more for BT and then all the rental lies witht hem it would be easy to sort any problems out, Virgin do have a resonable offer on aTM £10 if you are ready to go with a mac code instead of the £14.99 {iirc}

Looked at Orange too seemed like a good service ticked all the boxes but after reading a few reviews discounted them as it looked like more trouble than the saving would provide.

These days there is so much choice and prices are all very similar {BT being one of the more expensive} however in conclusion to all thereading and thinking I have done recently I opted for BT for the ease and simplicity plus the few additional things they provide, base phone package, option 1 BB {we can only get max 4 meg here anyway so the faster sevices are wasted}

Took me 35mins on the phone to sort it out, they will write to talktalk and deal with it all, home hub for free until end of march too on option 1.

Good look a bit of a mine field out there.

so far I'm paying with BT at the mo....

bt together option 1 =£9.35
broadband =£21.21

all plus vat.


I know they will now come down on the BB price as when I took it ot its about £25 a month.


really would like to stay with bt, but want to be paying less.

even with other companies you still have to pay the bt line rental don't you?

I asked BT to do me a deal and now get unlimited BB for £19 a month with line rental at £10.50...

I didn't threaten to leave I just asked them to price match and they did.

Dunno why you need to pay so much for Broadband - I pay AOL £9.99 a month for unlimited broadband. BT is about £12 for the line and few more pence for calls that arent within the 5p an hour evening thing. Sky do 'free' broadband which could mean getting rid of AOL, but it's limited data per month. D

I think it depends on what you use for TV. If you are looking for tv also, I would suggest looking at Sky packages.

I think all of the tv packages offer you a free internet connection, the only issue is you need to have a bt phone line.

I am sure you can keep your current telephone number as well if thats a factor in your choices.

Just change my phone to O2 and would like to change to O2 broadband from BT, but unfortunately not available in my area as yet.
Looks like O2 are getting very good reviews as I think it's the same as Be Unlimited.

also going to look at having the BT Vison as well, think its £30 connection then it's just lik ehaving a freeview box... but not sure if we want that yet.


all in all, I have a better package than I have now for not really any more money than I pay now.
