Sorry if this has been done to death but....

We're moving from Scotland to the SouthEast so have to give up our current NTL contract (shame as unlimited 700k broadband, phone and TV for £50 a month).

Which broadband should we consider? Interested in either combined phone/broadband or broadband alone. We can't get cable where we're moving to. I am not inclined to go down the BT route as it irritates me that I have to do e-mail on-line and they don't provide it as part of their package.

Thoughts?

Have been with Pipex for nearly 3years now and never had any problems... And my connection gets a serious hammering everyday...

 

Another Pipex vote, been perfect until yesterday - had a problem with the line but they managed to get BT to fix it v.quick.

 

I'll vote for zen no problems since its been connected... although eclipse flex looks interesting if I was looking for a new connection now.

wrx-mark are you on xtreme3 by any chance? had connection problems with a pipex connection last nite too, till just after 9 ish. Seems ok now thou.

I heard today that BT has lowered the signal/noise threshhold for provisioning ADSL services. The result of the "extended-reach" trial in Milton Keynes was successful. People who found themselves just beyond reach of the service before may now find themselves able to get service. See http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=1818. If I'm able to get the servive, I'm planning on going with Zen.

 

I am using www.freedom2surf.com ADSL as it's cheap, cheap, cheap. £22.50 a month, and you can switch it off at any time (ie monthly not yearly contract), you can get a 1meg line for £40 odd. No problems with it, I had cable before which was good, but every couple of weeks there was service issues in my area, so I would quite often be stuck on dial up, never got a credit for loss of service! Very good tech support though (24hr).

In 6 months never had loss of connection, never had any reason to call the tech support. Even though it's cheap you still get email and webspace. Personally all I need is line, and smtp server really.

 

I have NTL 600k in the south east and have had it for nearly 4 years now with only two outages. 25 quid a month.

I have NTL at home and its no problem. It's also going up from 600kbps to 750kbps for no extra charge (I pay £19.99 a month for it, but I have their phone/cable tv too)
At work I have just signed up to Central Point Broadband which is 512kbps ADSL for £18.99 a month

 

you guys on the mainland are lucky. in NI we have either BT or NTL

 

This is going off-topic slightly, but what are your broadband options in NI?
