Interesting fact - number 814
A local scrap dealer with a number of yards around the country makes £30,000 a month on salvaging loose coins found in scrap cars.......

dunno.
say they have ten yards - thats 3k per yard per month...How many cars would each yard scrap in a month? ten a day? thats 300 cars per month - maybe thats a bit optomistic imo, that would mean an average of a tenner in change in each car.
Every time I buy a car I go on a proper cleaning missions and rake up any stuff left in it and Ive never found more than two quid.

£5 a car (which seems a HUGE average) means 6,000 cars a month, about 270 a day mon-fri.
even if he had 20 sites does he get 14 new wrecks a day EVERY day at EVERY site?
Sounds unlikley.

I dounbt £30K
But you can make a few bob; When I used to valet cars as a lad (christ that makes me sound old ), in some cars I'd find up £10 in loose change stuck in the crevis of the seats, lodged in seats rails or under floor mats etc. Being an honest saft sod, I'd put them in teh coil holder or a money bag and tell the owner. And some of the nicer customers let me have it as a tip.
I bet those polish valeters don't do that

I used to valet cars at a garage, used to be great finding Coinage in there, made a few quid, never said anything as the tight old **** who ran the place would have had it off me, what was less good was finding a crusty Vibrator in one car and a used Syringe (perhaps why the car was so cheap and the owner so eager to leave ?), I pulled it from my hand and then went and got a Tetanus, then an Aids test, all for ten quid a day.

They have quite a few yards by all accounts (EMR). Car goes through a crusher and crushes it into small pieces. Coins get mangled as well, but are collected and exchanged at the royal mint. Chap who owns the company is in the top 50 richest people in the UK.

mate works in a scrappy, often they get a few quid, if a taxi comes in there is usually a bit more.
but bull**** would the guy pocket that, when one of the greasy mechanics finds a fiver it would go in their pocket not the bosses!

A: If you FIND £30,000 it is tax free.
B: If you actually earn it from selling parts and scrap it is TAXABLE at up to 40%!
Mmmm - it couldn't possibly be someone mistaking A for B could it?!
