Default Hoarding

Do you hoard tonnes of rubbish as well ?

My missus and kids generate masses of junk, she keeps bringing stuff home from her mums, then kids get something new everytime they go somewhere, they get too much stuff at Christmas and nobody will throw anything away, cupboards get filled and never opened and I have found I can bin things and nobodu notices anyway.

Its driving me mad !

yup i started doing this 2 years ago, throwing out things that the G/F has left about, she has never noticed anything apart from 1 eye make up brush thing, she had left it next to the computer for 2 days, so it went in the bin.

she hoards anything, plastic bags, obscene amounts, it got to the point when the drawers in the kitchen would not close, upon inspection i found another 24 bags that had over spilled down the back due to her putting more and more in

threw them all out and she started having a go "because sometimes i need a bag"

new phrase is "leave it about, i chuck it out"

Yep really annoys me, clearing out dads garage this weekend, spent 6hrs at it, hardly looks like I have touched it, I was finding paperwork from 1973, and big thick employee nominal reports from 1979.

Kinda hoping I am going to stumble over a 1960's Farrari or something but sadly I don't think it will happen.

God only knows why some people refuse to throw anything away, really really bugs me. Makes no sense as once the clutter gets above a certain level they cannot remember what they have got and if they can they cannot find it, normally resulting in the purchase of another one so its ultimately pointless.

Gurr anyway!

Yup missus is the same, but I have my moments too lol.

Tend to have a good clean out once in a while, and start all over again.

The thought "oh that will come in handy" is a BAD one!

Our boss is a bit like that.

We tidy up the yard and stores and things "disappear" when he goes on holiday... I don't think he's missed anything yet.

LOL - my other half is the complete opposite. "hmm, we haven't used this for over 6 months - charity or bin"

I do have a tendency to hoard car parts (unless they're busted!) at the back of the garage, even for cars I don't have any more. Set of brand new rear shocks for an MGC? - yup, still in the wrapping; glass bowl fuel pump for a 2.25 Land Rover? - yup, at the back there somewhere; windscreen wiper motor for a 1960s Mini? - yup, in that box new & unused; assorted parts like lights, spoiler, wheels, etc. off the Scoob that "might" be used to return it to normal someday - oh yes!

I really must have a sort out & get down to the Bealieu auto-jumble one day!

But never forget sod's law of hoarding.......

You keep something for years - just in case - but then get all brave and sling it.

Then about 3 days after the bin men have been..... Yes you've guessed it

Happened to me several times

Suffering from the same problem here.
Kids get ridiculous amounts of toys at Christmas and Birthdays. The wife seems to think we are living in a storage facility.
I have told them that we are going to have a major clear out and anything that has not been used in the last twelve months is going to a charity shop.

I guess that we should be able to get rid at least a dozen black bags of crap and with luck should double it. This is without taking the loft into consideration. I may be gone for some time.

Defintely car parts. E-Bay is often to blame in my case. Because I tend to favour rare old motors, I seem to buy parts whenever they come up for sale and never get round to putting them on the car.

Eg: for my R5 Turbo 2: brand new front disks, new Goodridge braided brake lines, brand new original rear Alloy wheel, 2 used front TRX tyres, 2 used rear TRX tyres, alternator, headlamp, side stickers, oh and then a damaged front bumper which is of no use to anyone and various useless bits of damaged trim and other assorted rubbish.

I was heading down the same direction when I owned an Integrale last year, but that's gone now. I haven't given in to temptation to start hoarding for our Bugeye yet: hopefully parts are still plentiful and Jap cars don't tend to break as much as my other ones. Touch Wood of course.

That's why we do it when he's on holiday. If he wasn't he'd look in the skip and fish it back out again. We just skip the junk and get the skip swapped before he's back in work.

I have sold my other halfs old clothes on ebay without him knowing as he never wore them and didnt even notice they had gone.
This year he asked where his xbox was, it had been stuck in the spare room gathering dust, he was shocked when i owned up to selling it a year ago for £70

super glue (hard), mobile chargers for phones we have not got anymore.paper clips, drawing pins, picture hanging kit, it is endless.

junk expands to fit the available space simple law of physics.

My in-laws live on a farm, it has a barn which fairly large, and full, most of us need to get rid of old couches but not them, I think its where the habit comes from, it goes in worth something and either devalues due to progress, for example old camera kit, went in still worth something, now its not worth a penny and furniture goes in, goes out of fashion or gets eaten. Have to say its the place to go for old videos, out of date dog food and vintage fax machines !

Don't get me started on my family, also farmers.
The place is a pig sty and that's just the house!
Jam jars, margarine tubs, plastic bags, old carpets, sawn timber offcuts, bricks, paving slabs, pots, old aluminium saucepans.
Tins of paint with 5mm of paint (usually solidified) in the bottom, wall tile spares.. Only trouble is those "spares" are for the kitchen that was ripped out in 1990...
Never mind what's up in the attic..

omg!! The people in this thread!! Throw my stuff out at your peril.

I like to keep a few things (hoard), but they are nicely stored away. On occasions in the past people have "cleared" them out "for me". Hasty trips to the bin and threats of revenge have been given

The snotty tissues, there is one in the same place every day in our bedroom, its like a law, like the handfull of fluff near the dryer, the toffee wrappers round the pc, the 2 foot of debris in the kids bedrooms.
