Another driving whilst SORN thread
Need to get the car MOT's and have established that it is fine to drive it to the testing station (pre booked) without tax or MOT. I however need to get the screen changed to go through the test, is it legal to drive somewhere to have works done prior to having an MOT done?
I intend on driving sraight to the testing garage after the screen is changed

I really don't know, but can you not be "driving to the MOT place" should you be stopped while going to the windscreen place?
I would say the chance of being stopped is really slim, but then I remind myself we are talking about not only you, but you and your car

Autoglass etc offer a mobile service - In fact, don't most wndscreen replacement places?
Of course you might be getting it done far cheaper at the place you want to take it.

Better to get windscreens done in a dry warmish workshop. Some jerk turned up to do mine when it was hammering down with rain and he had no awning - just said he'd "be quick". "S8d off" says I, rang the insurers and told them their servie was unacceptable, went elsewhere and the insurers still paid.
I do my windscreens every 50-60K - a swift tap with a hammer just around the corner from the windscreen place after first checking my screen is in and £40 later a fresh screen and a great view with no chips, scratches, pitting whatever.

For hiking my premiums up in a round about way, Why would someone do this?

I believe you're permitted to drive to and from a pre-booked MOT centre, and also directly to and from a garage to have work carried out that's essential to pass the MOT. You can, however, still be done for driving an unroadworthy vehicle.
