Default Stupid Things Fifth Gear Have Said This Week.

So far:

A) Complaining that the SatNav in a BMW stops at the Polish border. We should be thankful they've learnt their lesson.

B) That the last Golf GTI was/is the best GTI ever. I'm sorry. WHAT!? Are they all on crack!?

C) That the SAS sit around writing books now and that the SBS are the only ones who do anything. Someones wanting to wake up to find a long haired man standing over them holding a knife to their throat I think.

D) Saying "Emotional Control Unit" when talking about a car key and not laughing at the absurdity of it.

Havent seen this weeks but last weeks made me cringe with the bit about scoobs. Get one for £3k and they show a mint RB5 that you have no chance of getting for £3k. Then proceed to tell you that subaru recommend oil change every 7.5k miles but they reckon every 3k miles - wtf?

Still worth watching for the few titbits of decent info they. Mostly when Plato or Needell drive.

Having had, a Mk1 1800, MKII 16V, MKIII 16V, MKIV Turbo, MKIV 2.8 4 Motion, MKIV R32, a MKV Edition 30. I would say that this is a pretty good statement other than the best GTI is a MKV GTI Edition 30. Its easy to think of the MK1 as the best, and it some ways it was very good but it did have serious drawbacks like the brakes didnt work..... it let water in, the rear suspension was very harsh and could damage rear passenger backs and it went rusty.

I tend to turn the sound off as most of what the presenters say is b0ll0x. Then it goes on again for v8's or v12's when driven by Tiff or Plato

D) About 56mph being the most economical speed to acheive the the best range from a tank of fuel (i.e. at it's most efficient/economical). In actual fact, it's at idle in top gear, and, with the car being a big diesel, it should trundle along at about 30-40mph in 6th gear at 900rpm or so and get something stupid like 70mph.

TBH though we had a Renault that said 56mph was the ideal speed for economy in the handbook! Apparently more than that and the wind resistence means the car has to work harder.

Of course if it is basically at idle it's not exactly working hard just always found it a strange thing to have in the handbook. Also advised not having the windows down over 50mph because of the extra drag!

5t.

56mph, oooh isn't that 90kph? Yes, I'm not suprised that a lot of manufacturers say 56mph as it's a 'fair' speed all things considered!

Maybe on the flat, but not in the real world.
They would never say 'top gear'

As manufacturers have to report mpg at 56mph they optimise fuel economy at this speed.
