Whats the cheapest way to store 80GB mp3 files permanently connected to my amplifier.
Hi,
I have my cd player/ amp/ speakers but also have 80gb of music on MP3 on my laptop. I want to transfer this to something then leave it permanently connected to my amplifier (a sort of digital music source). The obvious answers are an ipod, or a cheap small screen laptop. Is there anything else you can think of. I'd like it to display the album art if possible so a small screen would be nice.
thanks
Paul.

not sure tbh
I have been looking for something similar for storing images on, and there is such a device but its around 400 notes, ezpc is about 170 quid, a cheap 2nd hand laptop is 100-150 quid, or brand new reasonable laptop about 300 quid

A friend of mine came round last Sunday and had a 500GB multimedia portable disk. It could store movies, music, photos the works so have a hunt around. We just plugged it into the telly with the 3 cables (sorry, I'm not audio/video compliant) -- the red, white and yellow cables and it worked a treat. I'm sure you will find something similar near to you. Dunno what price it was but my friend is not one for spending megabucks on gear...

I always considered the sony 80 cd player !! it plays mp3's so you connect a normal cd player (a bit larger) to your home cinema and you have proper sounds plus you always have a backup as they are on cd's
Failing that I use two 60gig ipods and they work a treat

A Media HDD is the best solution as mentioned above. I bought THIS ONE for £130 and it has all my personal photos, 000's of MP3's and nearly a hundred movies with over 400gb left to fill. the movies are either as torrents downloaded or you can just drag and drop the 'VideoTS' folder from any DVD and it will play it like a DVD, menu's and all. It's one of the best gadgets I've ever had. I was gonna use a Mac Mini as a media server connected to the TV, but for 1/4 of the money this does pretty much all except surfing and email. It has USB to connect to your 'puter, and feeds your TV/AV amp via composite (worst), SCART (OK) and component (best, scaled to 720p) as well as analogue and digital audio out, and even remote control

I'd have to buy some small tv or screen for the navigation. Like i said, all i have is an amp and two speakers in a room with no tv or computer.
So really its an external hard drive with an in built media player that requires no pc or operating syatem ?

The box I was talking about was a multimedia thing, you plug it into your TV and use the remote which comes with it to navigate the menus/folders etc. No screen necessary except for your TV...but without a TV I think you are stuffed at least for this gadget.

This has a built in screen for navigation. Some come with hard drive, some without.

Looks OK. Google Shopping only lists outlets in the US, and at $270+ you'll probably need to budget for taxes and handling charges, but still not bad.
