Budget Hotels in New York
#2
We stayed at the Red Roof Inn in November. Recently refurbed, so all clean and tidy. Nothing too flash but made a great base. Lifts can be a bit slow but nothing major. Breakfast room isn't huge but get down for 8.15ish and you can get a table (if you eat in).
On 32nd - street rooms like right at the Empire State, handy for the Subway, Macy's, Times Sq etc.

Im not being biased because i stayed there but Milford Plaza for the win. Its takes 2 mins to get out the doors, turn left, turn left again and walk untill your stood in the centre of times square. I could not believe we were so close. I was like "holy sh*t, this Time Square"
I used Royal Limousines to get us from JFK to the hotel - $139 inc tip and tolls and meet and greet at gate. Taxi back was $50 inc toll. So only an extra £45 for a limo, and if your going with the missis she will love it
If you decide to do this they ask for your CC details online but dont debit anything untill they swipe the same car in the limo when you get out, so make sure you take the same card with you.
as i just got back my memory still fresh so if you want to know anyhting else just ask.

Not sure you want to set the wifes expectations with a limo from JFK then roll up at the Milford
We took a private cab from JFK driven by a Shaq lookalike who played RAP music about raping the police all the way to the Waldorf.....having thought we were going to die the hotel made a nice contrast.

Going to the Milford in a Limo woulf be like turning up at Chicago Rock Cafe in a Limo and joining a queue with the rest of the singletons!
I'll keep it real and get a cab.
I've been before but not with my wife hasn't

You got raped big time.... echo the above...thats like hiring a maybach to get to the airport, and then sitting in economy
Even dial 7 car service charge around the $50 mark from JFK too...
Its a flat fare of $45 to/from JFK to/from anywhere in manhattan in a yellow cab and you dont have to pay the tunnel tolls, as the driver will ask you which way you want to go.

What way would you recommend going to Manhatten from JFK ?
Back on topic, stayed at the Milford Plaza a few years back - nothing special but it'll do the trick and is usually well priced. As has been mentioned the location is very good,a 10min stroll to Times Square.

Holiday Inn Express
we stayed ther a couple of years ago - It is very well located and the rooms were fine.
For me the only downside was the crappy buffet breakfast - plastic knives and forks and paper plates - but you can always go out for B/fast.
PM me to remind me to send you the details / address etc.
The Waldorf (last year) was a different kettle of caviar

I think the extra for the limo would be well spent if we didn't have a mortgage together if you know what I mean. He doesn't have to impress me, I married him Just being away somewhere different without any kids/worries etc. will be nice.
I'll have a look at the recommendations, but if anyone has any others, let me know.

Tickets for New York Nicks Booked
I'd like to eat at the top of a tall building, but I fear the Rockerfeller Centre's Rainbow rooms could be a wallet buster and the no jeans policy kind of rules me out!
