If its an American bank every employee is either a president or director so an associate director could be 1 up from the cleaner.

Mate of mine works for one of our well known banks in the UK and there, the pecking order is:
Minnion scum phone humans
Minnion scum phone human team leaders
Team managers
Associate directors
So an associate director there has a dept of about ~50+

associate director is somewhere between vice president and director i believe. listen, who cares what they call you. we have vice presidents earning more than some managing directors

AFAIK the pecking order is -
AD = assistant vice president (junior management)
D = vice president (middle management)
ED = executive director
MD = managing director
Board members /CFO/CRO/COO
CEO
CEO's missus
