Default Registration transfer help..

Looking for a quick bit of help here.

I have been offered a Private plate off my friends car which she has declared SORN. No MOT or Tax. Can I stillget the PP transfered onto to my new car wich is less than a month old?

Thanks
S!

NO!

Car has to have a valid MOT to transfer the plate off, or thats what I have been led to believe,

You'll have to get it insured, MOT'ed and then TAX'ed.. Oh and pay 80 quid to transfer it.

Oh the joy!

But then you can always cancel the policy, re-fund the tax and sell the car with a full MOT (when you finally get the V5C back).

IF that is, the car CAN pass an MOT.
In my mates case..... it could not, so lost C20 LET as a plate. (think that was it)

It is only £25 a year retention though as the other £80 has paid for your transfer in the future.

Far better now for people with more private plates than cars than it used to be when you had to have as many cars as plates. At least there is a facility to hoard plates now.

Yes I know £25 is for retention, and thats a yearly cost... Dont even get me started on the £80 transfer fee's! My plate has cost me about £480 in transfers alone.. not sure why I bother?

Get your friend to get the plate put on a retention certificate, it may well work then.........
