Teenage car insurance
Which is the best company to get car insurance for an 18 year old?
Is it best to have them as a named driver, or start their own policy?
Obviously not talking about having him insured to drive the Scoob , just a cheap starter car

Pity we don't have an Insurance section
If he is living at home and not over obviously using the car on a 24/7 basis then having him as a named driver will cost a bit more. Insuring in his own name will cost a fortune. We are talking £200 or £1200 for example.
Some will advise to take the hit so he builds uip his own discount. I don't think it's worth it as it will get cheaper anyway as he gets older.
I even managed to get a Certificate from my insurance company covering "our" runabout for my son to use it for work. Cost £10 more And if you are in AA get an extra cover for him as it's cheap and old runabouts break down. dl

Never even thought of insurance on my Dads policy when I was learning 25 years ago he just paid it

Every one goes on about making them get their own policies to build up no claims.
I was on my Dad's policy as a named driver for years and years. When i finally got my own policy it was a hell of an increase but I worked it out recently and over the last 10 years it actually worked out a hell of a lot cheaper that way.. it just means i didn't pay as much then (when i had no money) and payed a bit more when i was in my early twenties (when i did start to have some money)
