Noise Interference On Satellite
I wonder if anyone can help.
The problem is, I get like a whistling, whirring noise when on certain channels. But this goes if I change to another channel. Seems to be more evident on ITV1 for some reason.
I have rung Sky & they ran a check through my equipment. Reported no faults but asked me to check my scarts etc. This I did, everything in order.
There isn`t a fault with the TV, as I can view other sources ie DVD without any problems.
Can anyone enlighten me to the problem? I`ve reset my Sky box.
Many Thanks
Ant

I take it that your sky is connected via scart to the tv. I would swap the sky scart input to the DVD scart position and check if this clears the problem. This will eliminate a faulty scart input problem. If fault is still present, then it looks like a faulty sky box

Certainly seems an issue on your end either with your equipment or leads.
Would be something I'd expect to see/hear if I were watching sky through the RF (aerial) instead of the scart inputs (i.e AV1 AV2 etc). Which you shouldn't be (inferior picture, and mono audio) but easy to inadvertantly do if the aerial lead is hooked up to the sky box.
I think its a case of unplugging and praying until you find the cause:
If it were me the first port of call would be to try unplugging all the inputs to the TV (including aerial), except for the scart lead to the sky box, and also unplug any scart leads connected to the skybox other than for lead for the TV. If that doesn't cure it, try different scart leads and try different Scart sockets (if you have more than one)
Aswell as duff leads, some equipment, namely TV and DVD recorders can suffer cross-talk between various connected inputs, so by doing the above should remove the problem - unless the TV or skybox or lead between them is the cause.
Something I have noted is the past, is some TVs can cross-talk analogue terrestial channels through the AV inputs, even though an AV input is selected. For example: If the aerial is connected and say BBC1 is selected on the TV's terrtrial tuner, then it is switched to an AV input such as AV1 to watch Sky or a DVD, one can still hear BBC1 audio in the background. Unplugging the aerial sometimes cures it. However on other TVs with this problem, I noted it can cause a background hiss which is louder and worse than the cross-talk, so its better to keep the aerial connected and the tuner tuned in (well, whilst terrestrial analogue remains turned at least).

Update
I have changed all of the scarts around etc. Even tried just linking the skybox to the tv, removing dvd recorder etc. Problem still persists
It only appears on certain channels thats whats got me puzzled. For example switch from ITV1 to one up. It disappears. Switch down again, it stays silent for a while, then starts to create.
I do have a spare box up in the attic, which I will try.
Maybe the recent weather has moved my dish, I don`t know.
So, I shall try the other box & let you know what happens. This is really frustrating btw.

Can you ask him to turn them down, please? I`ve got a headache
Richie, I`ve had a look through the site. It seems that my box is prone to failure on the electrical side. Chocolate internals
So I need to try my other box.

Update. . . . .
I`ve changed my skybox after many attempts at unplugging various scarts etc.
So, after re-connecting the old box, it seems to work correctly without whistling. Just one call to sky to re-programme my card & all seems well. For now.
Many thanks to you all for your help, greatly appreciated
It seems my box was prone to electrical failure afterall.
Anyone want a skybox?

I had similar problems on my Sky+ box which only manifested itself on certain channels which would sometimes pixelate completely then be fine for a week or so. The signal bars were at about 50% which was always fine on my old normal Sky box.
Sky sent one of their own engineers out and immediately said the problem was that the dish was slightly out of alignment and the fact that only certain channels were effected was normal. 2 minutes up a ladder and some fine tuning and the problem was solved.
Fingers crossed that your prob is sorted. If it returns Screwfix sell a sat dish tuning meter which is a doddle to use and you can easily tweak the dish yourself to get maximum signal. The contractor installers often do a 'near enough is good enough' job on the dish alignment.
