John Lewis price match, advice please.
Hi,
I'm after a Panasonic TX26LMD70 which is £599 at John Lewis but as low as £439 at Amazon or Empire Direct. I like the JL 5 year warrenty on tv's, but do they price match the internet. How can i still get it from JL but at a lower price?

They don't PM internet traders. It has to be a store, within a certain distance of one of their stores and have the exact same model available for sale that day. They will contact whoever you ask them to PM and verify these details before issuing you with a PM code (I am told).
I'd be looking at Philips, Sony or Samsung 32" sets for that money. We dropped lucky and got the Philips 32PFL7562D from Amazon for £440 a few months back which may have been mispriced as the same set is now £650, with the lower spec 32PFL5522D at £430. Very pleased with it, and I aren't a lover of LCD.

You need to given them all the details of the offer, and they get back to you in 7 days in writing to say whether they'll match the price or not.
There are some cheap online places with store fronts, so you can normally still get them to match a pretty good price, and remember you get a 5 year warranty on all TV's at JL!
Edit: They should match this - that TV for £439 from somewhere with a storefront;

They will PM online traders, providing they have a commercial shop, ie a shop where customers can go in and purchase items.
that said, there are a few who meet the above requirements, but are not recognised by JL

Its a pain that JL will only let you know by letter, but the process has started. Lets see.
I've seen a Sony 26inch for 350 at Sainsburys.

I price matched my 42" panny plasma with John Lewis. Their price was £1195 + £99 for the stand. Price matched against Richer Sounds @ £999 + £99 for the stand. A week after it arrived, I found out through the AV Forums that John Lewis in Peterborough were involved in a local price war with 2 other stores and had the same tv advertised in store at £879, despite still be advertised at £1199 on the web and other stores. I wrote to customer services and they wrote back confirming this to be the case and refunded me another £120.
I saved £320 thanks to price matching and the AV Forum (they have John Lewis price match posts)

They will price match against Empire as they have real stores, I bought my 40" Sony Bravia from JL with a 5 year guarantee on to of the Empire price by price match against Empire saving about £400.
There were no letters involved, they just sent someone to the local Empire shop (apparently they do this, to check it is actually available at the price you tell them in the store with visibile price in stock in order to qualify for price match). Once they'd checked they called me back (1 day later) and said ok. The process may have changed to letters now but it was just a phone call when I did it.

That said j4ckos mate is also correct that they are aware that a lot of people do this and they now offer a lot of TVs with "a free stand" or "a free DVD player" etc etc so that it is hard to get an exact price match. Still worth a go though if you can find a TV you want there that matches elsewhere you save money and gain a 5 yr warranty...

I bought a dvd recorder earlier this year and they price matched the local Comet based on a phonecall while I was standing there.
It was quite funny listening to one side as he was obviously asked if he was phoning from another retailer for a price match and he says "errr, no. I'm, erm, just a member of the public"

Not this morning it didn't. Letter only. The only thing is i've looked on the JL website and the Panasonic is TX26LMD70A as opposed to TX26LMD70. I wonder if JL will use the "A" to say its a different model.

Curry's/Dixons have used this trick for many years. The manufacturers are more than happy to oblige in altering the code printed on the label on the box when they're buying 500 of each set, just to p!$$ off Joe Public when buying 1
