Thumbs down Bandwidth Freed-Up By Switching To Digital TV

Broadcast regulator Ofcom is refusing to reserve newly available bandwidth to provide UK homes with free High-definition TV.

It plans to sell-off the bandwidth to the highest bidder!!

It should be made available for free-to-view HD TV!!

Playing into SKY's hand if we sell to the highest bidder!!

sucks doesn't it.

Every tax cow they see they milk for as much as possible. We do have massive national debt (I'm talking about what the gov owe the world bank), no to mention war commitments.

Its a shame all the money they get will go to things we won't really see any benefit from.

That is pathetic, what's the betting sky tv will snap it up no matter the cost.

Yeah:

Police = waste of space, so I don't even bother with them anymore.
NHS = useless, only good if you'd like a case of MRSA - so I use BUPA
Schools- don't have kids, so ............
Prisons - errrrrrrr trying not to use these either

Would be worth everyone e-mailing him with our thoughts.

I guess the answer would be that it is to benefit the public purse?

Stinks is all I say - SKY will corner it at all cost so they can keep their monopoly!!

I have had three major and successful operations in NHS hospitals. I was treated extremely well by the surgeons and their teams and also the nursing staff despite the efforts of the top heavy and very expensive administraton put in place to invent targets thus making the jobs of those at the sharp end much more difficult.

Les, I'm glad you had a good experience of the NHS and that you're fit and well afterwards. However, I think that most people agree that it could and should be a lot better. I have several examples; my father was sent an apointment card the day after the appointment, my uncle contracted MRSA, it took me 3 months to get an appointment to see a specialist.
I do agree that the front line staff are usually very good. I use BUPA as it's paid for by my company and if I need treatment, they ask where and when, not we'll contact you in the next 3/4/5 months.

There are new compression technologies that allow full HD to fit in the current free view channel allocations and it can work on a different carrier meaning one channel can have a standard and HD signal.. Cant remember the details but it was being talked about on some TV programme.
