I'm amazed you are getting a doc to come out, they normally don't bother

I always have to take the kids to the emergency ones, but it is a lot quicker than waiting for one to turn up, as they are only 5 mins away by car

Eldest is on her 2nd week of anti biotics with the dose now doubled because her ear infection hasn't cleared up

Hope she is ok and can get her temps down, not sure what else to suggest really

That's dangerously high. You need to get a doctor out. Get all her clothes off, and use a fan or something on her body. Use a warm not cold flannel on her torso, the evaporation will start to cool her.

You need to keep trying paracetamol or ibuprofen.

She sounds to be in a very bad way. I would consider getting her into casualty if the doctor doesn't show up anytime soon.

They tend to go round the houses on there. I think her temperature is worryingly high.

You can phone ahead if you want to, it won't make any difference to how they look after her though

I would seriously consider a trip to casualty soon, that is dangerously high.

May just be a bug, but when I was young, I ended up in hospital having convulsions apparently linked to fever, and I too had always suffered with very bad ear infections. Don't know if there definately was a link between all the infections and fevers and the convulsions for definate, but air on the side of caution here. Hope she gets better soon.

Call ahead, and tell them your coming.

My 2 year old had a fever and pains in her stomach. We phoned, drove tot he hospital, and she was seen in 10 minutes. Turned out to be a bladder infection.

40+ is dangerously high. Get her to the hospital, and if her condition worsens, she's in the right place.

Infections cause fevers, and very high fevers can cause fits.

Apples its always difficult to give advice over the net but if your child cannot keep her medicine down (that would imply she can't also keep any food/fluids down) then she needs to go to hospital for intravenous treatment. (antibiotics and fluids)

AEs often have a seperate section for kids so even if the main part looks busy it doesn't mean you'll have to wait that long.

Hope that helps

ps Paracetamol

That's what I thought, but I was little, so memory doesn't serve me so well.

Don't take a chance, go to hospital, with a temp like that in a child, I would doubt they'd make you wait 3 hours.

How old is your daughter Apples ?

A & E would be your best bet, if she worsens then you are in the right place without then having to wait etc

Didn't see the other posts in the mean time.

Apples, I'm a doc and if that was my daughter I'd be driving to AE. Don't panic mate but waiting for the Dr will just waste hours.

Well Apples you have wasted half an hour where you could have been in A&E it is a no brainer **** the doc m8 get her to the place where they can either put her right or send you back home with the peace of mind you require.

Hopefully you are at A&E now, but if you arrive claiming temp of 40+ your kid should be triaged and seen quickly. If you haven't gone already, go now!!

me 5 year old had the same symptoms a few weeks ago...

40+ temps, but was realitvly ok when the doctor saw him.. on the Monday. (hosp night clinic)

by Wednesday pm he was admitted to A&E via ambulance from the doctors surgery.

when i arrived at A&E about 30 mins later, he was being treated, IV / more antibios etc. he looked like sh*t , big dark circles round his eyes...etc..

the GP had seen a few odd spots which didn't respond to the glass test, and had treated it as the big M , hence the immediate injection of anti bio,s.. A&E were the same....

we spent 48hrs waiting for the results, whilst pumping him full of antibio,s
luckily it was just a bacterial infection from a chest infection he had, but it scared the crap out of me!!!

if in doubt, A&E

thats allways a big worry that "M"

well as i say we eventually got medication into her and her temps dropped, this morning shes laughing and playing with near normal temp !!! but were going to keep giving her antibiotics for a while as the ear infection will still be there, nhs is a bit of a mess isnt it but i do find they make the best from what they have.

Good to hear she is getting better mate.

My theory is I would always rarther waste a couple of hours of my time and the hospitals to be told everything is ok then take the risk of it getting worse or being something serioius from the offset. We pay taxes, Ni and everything else they are there to help so use them.
