Default Being Prude

Well, never thought I was.Just this pushing the boundaries of everything has gone too far.

This new horror movie causing a row about its rating.Something about scenes like someone having a knife shoved on their eye and twisted.Sorry but we are going too far with horror nowadays.

Same with 'near the knuckle' comedians. They go too far. They aren't funny.

What on earth is wrong with us nowadays? It's not 'entertainment'

Whats the problem? Its got an 18 certificate doesnt it? Think the only people who could possibly be influenced by these types of scenes are already mentally unstable in my view and will probably go on to do sadist things anyway.

Unfortunately most horror movies just don't "shock" enough nowadays so they are always trying to raise the "shock factor" .....

I am not a particular horror movie fan so do not really watch them......

Isn't the knife in the eye - well scalpel - exactly what Arnie does in the Terminator circa 1984? The effects have got more realistic though i'll grant you!

Don't like it? Don't watch it.

If you think it should be banned and you feel you want to impose your views on the rest of society, then you should probably become a politician, or perhaps work for the BBFC.

More often than not these gory scenes are done really badly anyway... Take "Hostel" with the blowtorch in the eye bit It was supposed to be gory but the effects/directing/acting was so ludicrous that it could be laughed off.
Same in the Saw film with the twisting machine... Ludicrous to the point of comedy...
So I think that trying to tip the violence factor backfires and as someone else has mentioned, only the mentally infirm would be influenced by it and to be fair they're already mental anyway and likely to be a danger regardless of a film.

The best scene of this type remains the "splinter of wood in the eye" scene in the full version of Lucio Fulci's 1979 ZOMBIE FLESHEATERS. It was cut out of UK releases until 2005...

I'm guessing that the film the OP is talking about is David Cronenberg's latest film, EASTERN PROMISES. This is about Russian gangsters in London, not exactly a horror film...

I agree to a point, its not always about effects though, more about the thought of it being done to you that makes it worse.

My worse scenes in a film are from Casino. Head in a vice and beat with baseball bats before being buried alive

Although I've seen several versions that have purported to be uncut, that have actually been anything but!! Whether that scene survives intact is the litmus test! Really makes you wince!!

When they feel they have to go to that extent for what they think is entertainment and also as lozgti said, when so called comedians are only able to go to the extremes of obscenity in an attempt to get a laugh, then it is an indication of their complete incompetence at the job.

Beat me to it. Great bit of Horror that.

Agree with comments above. If you might be offended at a film/programe, don't watch it.

Bit like Mary Whitehouse. Watched a programe just to be offended by it, so she could complain about it.

Lozgti.
Maybe Ghost, Something about Mary, or the Little mer-maid is more your type of movie.

On that one Ichi the killer japanese job. Ignoring the razorblade smile the bloke tied down and then having hot fat poured over him is nasty crispy torture!

Its funny really because alot of the things that the original poster would consider acceptable would be considered un-acceptable by older generations.. Its how the world works..

I love a good horror film, the more gory the better. But, when it comes to jokes, the more corny the better, mucky jokes very rarely make me laugh
