Try Hartington next time, Manifold Valley hotel for lunch and a walk down to Thor's Cave. Back to Hartington for some Dovedale Blue Cheese

It's not so wonderful when you're stuck behind a convoy of limestone wagons doing 15mph on your way to work in a morning

Did that for 6 years, glad I don't have to anymore

Agree though it is a nice place to stop for a break on a nice day

it was lovely, feeding the ducks by the memorial garden near the pub,

what a pleasant part of the world,

how do you get up to kinder scout from hayfield where do you park?
i have been there loads of times but never ventured up it, can it be done with kids? or is it too much of a walk.

I would not take kids up Kinder - especially at this time of year, maybe mid summer.

You at the very least need all the proper gear.

You go up Kinder Rd past the Sportsman Pub (i think its called that) and a few hundred yards on the left there is a small car park.

start your walk of from here, which at the begining is near the entrance of Hayfield Camping And Caravanning Club Site.

It can be a strenuous walk depending on how fit and how long you make it.

A good four hours is needed btw.

Few years ago 2 of us did a bit of hiking dropped off south Whaley bridge walked thro the town by the canal and up to a campsite might well have been hayfield ( it wasnt fully operational being March ) ,next day up on to the top there and back down Jacobs ladder into Edale to meet up with some others - was snowing at the top and we stayed in a brick hostelry at the bottom , actaully it more of a byre and freezing - would have been warmer in'tent . Next day we did the 'egde great views

Ahhhh Hayfield's s my home village, lived there for 18 years, parents still there

Well little hayfield is (even smaller) 1/2 a mile up the road

j4cko's mate, if you need any info on anything, routes to walk, where to park etc, ask away

for example, the sportsman is crap!
and the easiest way onto kinder scout is from the grouse inn pub on the top of chunal, get a couple of hundred feet headstart anyway ;-)

Hayfield eh? Lovely place. Used to cycle through loads of times on the way to Jacobs Ladder and into Edale, or do the disused railway from NewMills and then head up to Lantern Pike. Gorgeous area, and hope to be there again on my bike soon if all goes to plan

i used to go out with a girlf from hayfield, we spent all some clowning around and drinking and messing about, i was 19 (37 now)
it was great, i still like hayfield, you are only interested in one thing at that age, and dont appreciate all the things around you

im no roy cropper but it felt great to be alive on sunday there with the kids and wife

enjoying the scenery and getting away from work

Ahem, 'Mr Motivator' !

Listen, don't take any notice of him, he isn't being entirely honorable about visiting Hayfield, wandering lonely as a rather flatulent cloud in Englands green and pleasant, I reckon he was lurking on the off chance of seeing the Nurse he used to visit up there, though nowadays she may see him more as a patient than a object of lust.......

Hayfield

I love the place, all my family are from New mills so i've spent a lot of time in that area and it's a beautiful place. The houses that back onto the river are stunning and there is a traditional community spirit there

I can highly recommend Grumblys restraunt for anyone going for an evening meal there. A friend of mine ownes the kinder lodge, great pub and nice rooms!
