Smoking banned...drinking next
Hazardous drinking, the middle-class vice - Times Online
Ok,smoking is bad for you so the government sorted us all out.Seems there next plan is exactly the same for drinking.(Read the bit about 'government making drunkenes as socially unnacceptable as smoking)
Wonder if pubs will survive in the future now the government is going to surely force us to only drink (and probably eat next) what they say we can and when.
Sometimes feel like I am in old Russia or somethingSeems a bit different to their 24hr cafe culture and lets all gamble policies

Very strange priorities I must say from this sorry lot.
Drunkeness was always looked upon as being unable to control ones actions through personal weakness. All those kinds of standards have been blitzed now by the Authorities' liberal attitude towards various kinds of misbehaviour.
Nannying was just not necessary then.

Drunkeness and drinking are different things though. I know someone who gets drunk on 2 and a half pints. Doesnt mean pubs should restrict everybody to that volume of consumption.
Cant see anything coming from all this.

Obesity is the next big anti-social thing to be. It can cut your life expectancy by 10-15 years apparently. If BMI wasn't so restrictive, half the people within that category would just look a bit overweight!
I agree that most people drink at home etc. but what's that got to do with them! A binge drinker is someone who drinks more than 4 units in one sitting or something. That's like 2-3 bottles of beer! How many people do that on a weekly basis? Most I'd say!

I like the comments, particularly this one.
Drinking in certain public pace is banned already in Scotland. However, I intend to stick to the govenrment limits for units consumed averaging it out over my whole life including 18-20 abstemious early years.
