Default Which is the best Opticians for new glasses

Who does the largest range, best value, offers, most comprehensive eye test etc?

I had a quick look at Boots and their glasses ranged from £120 to £270 with a free second pair.

I went to an independant store in Derby as I found that the chains had nothing special. They had a great range of fashion specs. Couldn't decide out of 2 pairs so I bought both.
IIRC they cost circa. £250 for both.

Also found a good independant place in Sheffield.

get your eye test done at a high street store then check out http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk or Prescription glasses Prescription Spectacles from online optician speckyfoureyes.com

i don't wear glasses but a friend who does swears by both these sites. she buys glasses to match her outfits!!

I've done Boots twice woth the BOGOF offer still works out expensive once you've added the anti scratch, anti reflective coatings to both pairs!

Costco the next time, they whipped up some lenses for my sunglasses with all the above for about £50.

If you buy November issue of PRIMA magazine, or better still, get the wife/gf/partner to buy it. They have a coupon for a free eye test with Donald & Aitchison which would normally cost £27.50. It also gives 10% off a pair of glasses.

There is something fundamentally wrong with opticians being private companies. Same goes for Dentists.

I mean, it's in thier interest for you to need glasses. And you are in no position to argue with results

Whats more the cost of the test positvely discourages second opinions.

Luckily I get tests for free.
Unluckily, I have a large head, so all the current letterbox "styles" look ridiculous on me, even the biggest frames in the chains are smaller than I've currently got.

Will certainly check out hose links - ta.

These people actually specify head size:
Welcome to PerfectSpecs.co.uk
small, medium, large - but no freakishly wide...

Last week I had these guys glaze an existing pair of frames for £60 (was quoted £140 by my current optician) and noticed they had my frames including lenses for £190 as opposed to the £320 I paid last year. Have a look at the 'IC Berlin' range - make you look like an architect...

I have to have three pairs of glasses, one for distance, one for close-up and one pair of prescription sunglasses. It costs a fortune especially as fashions change so quickly

I usually get mine from Vision Express as my whole family go there and we get a nice discount (so they say!). I've got some Prada frames at the moment and from memory they cost pretty much the same as on the designerglasses.co.uk site.

It's all well and good to see various frames on the internet, but until you try some on for real, you can never tell if they are going to suit you!
It's also wise to take your partner with you for a second opinion.
