We are thinking we might try leaving booking a hol to the day before we would go, with our 2 kids for a bit of autumn sun in the half term. We've always booked a year in advance and had decided to give October a miss this year in preference for May next year, but now needing sunshine!

Anyone done this before, if so, was it a good experience or definitely one to avoid? Who did you use? What choices were on offer?

Just doing it now. £17 return each flights to Palma and £500 for the hotel in Magaluff half board. 3 People = less than £200 each for all our food and accom for 11 nights there staying in Magaluff. Partee

P.S. I do it every year. Paid a fortune for my first hols abroad, never again though. Save a fortune using stuf like ryanair.com and alpharooms.com

P.P.S I won £300 on the England game today so thats my excuse for going away lol

I booked a last minute to Altinkum in Turkey. I was pleasantly surprised, the hotel was very nice, also the resort.

Perceptions of this can be misconstrued, some will have fantastic holidays some may endure nightmares.

But until you undergo the experience, you`ll never know.

That is the beauty of booking last minute. I wouldn`t hesitate to do it again though.

Either way, a holiday is what you make of it. All you need is a roof over your head and a flight then your laughing

Fantastic if you dont have to book hols/have kids and are dont wail about being ripped off for the rest of hol to your companions vice/versa

and bonus point for saving a fair bit on the price too meant more drinking tokens into the bargain

Cheers folks, we had the holiday without the kids earlier in the year, so this is the 'family beach holiday' type thing, normally rent a villa in Lanzarote but finding any flights to coincide with school hols is proving to be impossible at the mo, hence thinking leave it to day before and see what comes up.

Got a bit of a hankering to take advantage of the cheap dollar and doing a package tour to take in the grand canyon, but still can't find any bloomin flights!!!
