Thumbs down BT Implementing a new charge on Broadband

Great isn't it??

They are now introducing a charge if you end your internet package with them, this is where there was no charge before and after the agreement you have with them ends!!

Who is the best Internet Provider at the moment? Value for money-wise.

Pete, metronet are quite good on cheap capped services.

If you have sky then their free service is fine, but flakey as hell if you live far from the exchange.

Most ISP's do a basic package approx £6-£14 per month - even pipex..

The charge only applies if you cancel and do not move to another ISP. How many will that affect, not me!

Ending the service

8. When you end your broadband service outside your minimum period and do not request and use a migration access code to move to another service provider, you will have to pay a cease charge of £6. You will not have to pay this charge in the event you are moving home and we are unable to provide the service at the new address.

9. The charge for ending BT Total Broadband within the minimum period will be the total of monthly rental charges left in the minimum period. We may also charge you up to £45 for any equipment we may have provided to you as part of the service.

-------------------------------------------------

Looks like MattW is correct ..... if you migrate to another service provider it doesn't apply, if I read it correctly?

Its an improvement on their past policy. They couldn't provide broadband to my new address when I moved (a few years ago now) and they actively chased me for £90 as a cancellation fee, even though I still kept a phone line with them

Charging you for not using a migration code is a bit harsh though.

I have used AOL from the start, they give no problems and their operating software is the best.

Unfortunately they're now owned by Tiscali so will definitely have a basic package along with the slow speeds and carp customer service they've always offered.

Try Zen, IDNet, etc. for grown up ADSL services (i.e. no traffic shaping, port blocking, and sensible download limits).

AOL is the biggest load of ****e to ever go on a PC. BT tried to charge me 250 to move suppliers after the contact finished as they claimed I had signed up to a new contract. Took a hundred phone calls to sort that out theiving *****.

Be Unlimited are by far the best value ISP at present IMO... if you live in an area where their service is available that is. Website: www.bethere.co.uk I left NTL for them and it was one of the best decisions I've made

It will affect plenty of single members of the Armed Forces who live in single service accommodation (barrack blocks..) as usually, you have no idea where your going to be living until you've actually moved.

I'm currently internet-less as I'm having to live in a shoe-box sized room in a transit block for an unspecified amount of time as my new unit doesn't have enough accommodation. So, if this charge had of been introduced a month ago I would have been hit for it.

Still.. I think a quite word with the call center manager pointing out that the charge was penalising service people and that the papers might be interested how evil BT punishes us would probably remove the problem
