Default Golf swing

Why oh why do people "practice" golf swings in public and nowhere near a golf course?

Is it to say "look at me, I play golf, aren't I sophisticated!"

You don't see any other "sports" people doing the same - footballers practising goals, etc.

I find it very very silly.

Funnily enough I find my mate always practicing cricket swings all the time. Usually on the golf course whilst stood around waiting for the people in front of us who cant swing a club co-incidently

Maybe its because you can practice the moves required to make a good swing without needing to:

A. Be on a golf course.
B. Be holding a club.

And every practise swing you have saves you 10 minutes of your life that you wont have to be trouncing through deep rought looking for the £3.50 golf ball that you lost on your first shot

Paint a couple of red spots on your ball, stawberry colour, about the size of a 20p.

If its discoverable, you'll never loose another ball again.

I always mark the ball in competition; last weekend I am standing on the first tee waiting to go off and two other people are using one of my golf *****, 2 red dots either side then "fitz" penned across the middle!

Looks like I am doing a public service by playing at the moment!

Always stick a new pro v1 into the jungle, and I always walk out with a 25 year old dunlop ddh The joys of golf.

EXCUSE ME EVERYONE, I PLAY GOLF.
YES GOLF.

Never see anyone doing practise rugby kicks, football stuff, tennis serves, etc in public with no kit.

I have at least 18 years left until golf will be considered. Until then, it seems to be the sport of the socially climbing cretin.

Runs away with flame suit on...

I always say leave a few ***** in on the course and replace them with the collection of range ***** that you always find around the course. 1 good ball = 5 range *****

I have played several times, taught by a mate who plays off 5.
Picked it up pretty quickly too.
The mate never mentions golf, he doesn't look like a golfer, he's almost apologetic about being good. He would never ever do a practise golf swing!

That's how golfers should be!
I'll play when I'm older - some nice courses around here. But right now, I'm young and fit enough to do sports that involve exercise.

Obviously walking 5 miles or so across uneven rough ground with 15kilos or so on your back, most of the time through trecherous jungle, dealing with wild animals (rabbits, squirrels, butterflys) is not thought of as exercise

I think the SAS should follow me around the golf course, that would sort them out.

In all seriousness though, dont knock it until you try it. It really is a great sport, and its never as easy as it looks.

Exercise, you should come with us when we do a week in Scotland visiting some of the worlds best courses each year

We paly 36 holes everyday on each course (No ***** buggies either) drink till midnight and start all over again for 8:00am.

Golf isnt just about the game either its the social scene around your own club, people from varied walks of life with a common interest.

As for the swinging, i confess if i find something that resembles a club it gets swung like a golf club, sad yes but helps keep the back supple for the next trip to the course.

Totally agree

Played since the age of 6 (32 years in total)

Never have I wore any diamond pringle sweaters or fallen (hopefully) into any of the general w@nkiness that goes along with it.

Love the game but hate all that Gold Clubs stand for.

However, more and more clubs are waking up to this though and at least appear to be trying to breed out the cretins.......

Always think the club car parks over the biggest comdey value...

More BMW 335's with personalised plates than you can shake a stick at

Cracks me up

Errrrmmm... read my post I have tried it!
Walking 5 miles over hilly terrain- Do that every morning with the dog. Maybe I'll carry her (22kgs) instead of a golf bag?!
Followed by a 5-10k run later in the day.
And weights twice a week.
And surfing.
And cycling about 30 miles.
And doing "extreme" washing up.
And the vacuuming.
And crazy tooth brushing.
And mowing the lawn - probably the most knackering of the lot.

Les -Tee hee -will try it!

lol @ Extreme washing up

I used to play when I was in my early teens.

Then I jacked it in and started hanging out in places where women were *not* excluded.

My golf may have gone to ****, but having girlfriends made up for it

It's only the older clubs that still have the old "toffs" and keeping the traditions of golf. I think a balance of the two is perfect like at my club. A very relaxed working mans club (more vw passats, golf's etc than Range rovers, X5's etc) and yet we still have certain traditions, No caps in the clubhouse or trainers and your shirt to be tucked in. Now clubs have "spike bars" which is a wear what you want affair. I feel this is much better as it attracts a better social side and attracts more kids to the game who dont want to be stuck in an old mans club house!

Not sure - it's always been the golf equivalent of a quick "kick about"
