off.. to turn on the lights, heating, open the windows and leave the car warming up outside. what the hell, might boil the kettle make some toast and do some ironing as well

TFT monitors are rubbish IMO. You can't do better than a large high end CRT if you can afford the desk footprint.

I look at my over useage as simply offsetting my carbon against that of a local tramp in my home town called Johnny Wellies.
He uses no electricity as his cardboard box has none. The only carbon he produces is from his tennants super brew trumps.
As I see it, his lifestyle gives me the green light to leave my windows open and my central heating on in summer, Fill my kettle to the top to make a thimble sized brew, and use white screen google...
As for polar bears, they were quite happy dancing light fandango before some their homelands where all snow covered, so I'm sure they'll be OK
