Default Conveyancing Solicitors?

As above really, just sold my house and bought another.

Rang round some local solicitors and the quotes are....a lot. Did a couple of online quotes and there is a massive difference.

Has anyone on here any experience of using online conveyancing. The AA do one which is originated by HAMMONDS which appears good value, however unlike local briefs their is no face to face stuff, all done on-line and by registered post etc.

Conveyancing is a cash cow for many places they don't like it but can charge loads for doing very little. Its no rocket science and any one can do it.

You sometimes wouldnt get to see the solicitor that did it for you if you did it off line anyway. When I bought my last house we got free legal thingys and it was a solicitor based 100 miles from me so it was all done by post then

not all are parasites but they like money and think they deserve the cash they get. Dentists they are the real parasites. I had one charge me £150.00 yesterday for cleaning my teeth.

Toothbrush - 95p at Tesco's

p.s. I've never used local solicitors - allways done on-line or via remote ones that were cheaper than the locals.

I went through an online agency as well. I'm using CMS - prices were very good - a good deal less than the local ones I found. So far it has been very good. CMS actually provide you with email updates throughout the process so you know exactly where you are. Seems to work very well.

You get what you pay for, like most things. If your cheap conveyancer fails to spot a title defect or unusual lease provision, it might start to look less of bargain. Most of the time it won't make any difference, I agree, but there are rare occasions when a legal issue leads to a discount.

Each to his own - there is market so make your choice.

You could try here:

Shoosmiths Solicitors : Solicitors UK Click on "Our Services" and then "Moving Home/ Mortgages"

They do an online service for people moving home which we found really useful - you can log in and see just where you are in the whole of the process - both for the purchase and the sale.

Good luck!
