Depends if your company pays you proper sick pay or statutory sick pay. I'm lucky, I get full pay for nearly 6 months of sickness!

Remember that SSP does not kick in for first 2 or 3 days and it's only just over £100 a week! I don't know many people who can live on that.

i thought it was 3 days before SSP kicks in, and then its only 56 quid a week, and you dont get the 1st 3 days anyway

Ive used holidays in the past, especially when the company doesn't have a sickness scheme

Yeah, I've looked at it now and it's about £72 per week and not paid for first 3 days.

Last time I had to 'nip into hospital for keyhole surgery to my shoulder' I had to have 12 weeks off work with no driving for 6 of those

And I'm self employed.
So £56 per week then. (sarcastic , that is)

at the very least you're entitled to sick days!
I would raise holy hell if I had to take holiday days for an operation!

in my opinion if they tell you you need to take the time off out of your holiday you should be looking for a new job !!!

I went in for arthroscopy (sp) on my knee a week before Christmas a while back and my works were great about it. I was back at work within 3 days, but they'd planned on me not being back until after the new year, with no repercussions towards me for having that time off.

Can't see why you'd have to take the time out of your holiday though !!
