I found out the other day the full story of a lad I know that was killed a week or so ago.
Gunning it along a wide stretch of road aproaching a roundabout, he decided to use the `Power` of his bike to beat the car in front to the roundabout. Only the `Power` was too much power for him to brake for said roundabout. Smashed into a car on the roundabout then bounced off and collided with a lamp post.
This was weeks after recovering from breaking his back in 3 places from the last time he crashed.

Been in the bike section of the forum for a few days.

If he hadn't tried to keep up the the bike at the start of the clip that overtook him he might still be alive today.

Sadly I don't find this at all shocking. I see bikers riding like that every single day on my daily commute between Swindon and Newbury. Seen a fair few accidents too. You get desensitized to it in the end.
The saddest thing is they almost always take some innocent person with them

I think he may have been trying to catch the bike that past him. If you watch his tacho he doesn't cane it at all. I think he went beyond his ability saw the bike coming the other way and that was where he headed.
A bit of pushing the bars the opposite way he was turning would have dropped him into the corner and he should have been ok. Anyone that rides a bike will know what I mean.

Yup that near miss made him lean in more, probably sat up or shifted his weight, bike went wide, bang. Bye Bye.
One reason why I like riding old bikes. Sure they aren't safe, they fall to bits and break (often) but they feel fast (well actually some are pretty rapid) but not anywhere near as quick as a modern bike. And that means I never have the temptation even to try and race or ride them that much faster than NSLs, because quite simply I have nothing to prove; I have a slower old sh*tbox of a bike, so theres no point.
Plus I can't push them too hard - they break too easily. A conrod in the crotch is never a nice sensation
Its like the moto GP on a Sunday round here on a sunny day. All my favourite roads have been ruined by feejit bikers killing themselves, forcing clamp downs by the pork and "biker aware" placards all over the damn place.

Funnily (!?) the bike I worry most about letting go is my RD500: its done 26000 miles on its original untouched engine and they have a habit of detonating at that mileage

Ohhhh - if you keep it below 1500 rpm you should be OK -
(The LC wasn't 10 miles from a rebuild when it let go so I think you have to accept that you might get sore bits if you hammer the appropriate bike)
