Cheltenham restaurant recommendation?
I am taking my girlfriend to Cheltenham this weekend and would like to know any good restaurant recommendations for the area?
Basically, we dont want anything too high end, just somewhere with good food, good atmosphere and good service.
Not too concerned with food type, indian, english, italian, thai, etc, just some suggestions on where is good and where is not.
Also, any good bar suggestions also welcome!
Cheers!

Doesn't exactly narrow things down as Cheltenham has loads of really good restaurants.
For Indian best to head to the Bath Road. Hassans at the high street end is pretty good. At the other end the Indian Brasserie is good, lots more around that area though. There's one in the grounds of the old Eagle Star tower block that does both Indian and Thai, right opposite where I used to live
Thai, the Thai Bistro is good, as it Thai Emerald, John Thompsons for a mix of asian cuisine. Good bar there too.
Storyteller is nice Story Teller Restaurant and Wine Bar Cheltenham, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, Eating out in the Cotswolds
Off the Square, very nice, quite small though so you'll need to book Off The Square Restaurant Cheltenham - Home Page
Or treat yourselves and go to the Daffodil The Daffodil: Welcome utterly superb though a little pricey.
Top of the range, 2 Michelin stars , Cheltenham Restaurants, Le Champignon Sauvage have yet to try it myself but heard good things.
So many good places....
As for bars, again too much choice, get your asses up to Montpelier for the nicer / trendy places. Great for watching girls

Daffodil - not THAT pricey, but good food and quite a novel place (it used to be a cinema, now an art deco restaurant - with open kitchen (where the screen used to be)...
...and for a great time at the weekend, if you're over 30, you can't beat "The 21 Club" (it's a bar) - if you can find it by the 'back' entrance to the Regent Arcade shopping centre (junction of Regent St. and Ormond Place).

Mahek's for an Indian, on Albion street which runs parallel with the High Street.
Zizzi's for Italian, similar concept to Daffodil I guess but this time a converted church with a pizza oven where the altar used to be. Personally I'd do this to all churches, the world would be a better place. That's between montpellier and Bath Road just a few doors along from the Daffodil.
For Chinese either Ruby's on Suffolk Road or the Mandarin Kite in Montpellier.
If I had to pick one it would be Mahek's.

Ill botelinos Ok I can't spell that. on St James' Street for Italian / Pizza
There is a tiny one up a side street near the Library that is very cosy. not stupid on price (IMO anyway)
Can't for the life of me remember the name of that one though.
Someone will probably know it if I can't find the name of it..
For lively pub grub and drink, young and trendy type places I'd probably go to the slug and lettuce or across the road to JD Peppers.
Staying on the pedestrianised areas but further to the top end of the high street there is Cue bar and Bentlys, very hip and trendy.
Thousands to choose from to be honest.

Found the Bottelino info for directions.
Bottelino's - Traditional Italian Restaurants
It's actually converted garages my old man used to work in repairing Jaguars.
Still working on the other one..
Found it.
Thai Bistro
8 Well Walk
Cheltenham, GL50 3JX
01242 244590
Proper brownie points for that one.

It's good but I wouldn't particularly recommend it for a romantic night.
Tended to go there with groups of mates in the past and drink many carafes of the house wine between us and gorge on pizzas the size of bus steering wheels
Excellent for that, only time I've ever managed to eat a starter and then an entire pizza was when I'd been out cycling all day with some friends. Normally the pizza defeats me

For a truly romantic local type night, you need to handbrake it into the drive thru maccys, then take her down the back of the industrial estate with the chavs for some drag racing on the strip, do 26 laps of the town centre at high speed, then ask to play with her monkey while parked up somewhere.
Job done
Dafodil looks nice- may have to check it out sometime.
