Not on the dog (no self respecting parasite would touch our manky old thing) but my eldest got one in Devon, came out easily, ot most of it did, the rest fell out a few days later, the way ,my missus reacted you would have thought it was one of those things from Alien.

Fleas are a lot harder as they are so flat. Got one on my own leg once and couldnt get it off after dousing in vodka with cotton wool, submerging in very hot water etc. Next time will try the hot match head or similar to see if they come off.

Lymes disease is on the rise in Scotland because of them - they have been a real problem the last 3-5 years!! Last year I picked upwards of 30 of them out of me during a two week holiday. The problem is that the winters haven't been harsh enough to kill off their population. Midgies are annoying but at least they don't bite you on the sly!
The first time you get a tick in you its quite off-putting but after about your 10th it's just par for the course!

My family owns a croft with a large grass field. The grass grows at least a foot high around our little caravan over the year so we cut out an area to camp, park cars, kick a ball about and for access - the rest remains as long grass. The ticks get into your tent while you sleep or if you are lying in the grass in the sun or playing football and they get on your feet when you walk to the shower block, etc then crawl up your legs. Hateful little things!!

Yeah....
Familiar with where and how but I reckon they must target only people over 5'8 1/2" tall as having roamed such habitats during my years the wee buggers never seem to munch
Mind you... off to Skye again soon and I bet the bloodsuckers gorge themselves this time

They don't seem to bother some people as much as others I find and some don't get biten at all. Same as midgies don't bite some people. Midgie bites don't bother me that much - it's the crawling all over you in a mass swarm that does my nut in! We got totally maulled by midgies on friday night!!!
