Goldfish :( and a tank cleaning question
Had to put our 20 year old Goldfish down yesterday. Very sad indeed considering it was 'only' a fish! Was a big bugger too, but was very ill with an internal bacterial infection
But it now means we have an empty tank that i need to clean properly so that it doesnt infect anything else we put in there....what do you suggest?

Potassium permanganate if you can get it (unlikely) otherwise a mild bleach solution or maybe hydrogen peroxide. Rinse very thorougly afterwards.
Avoid anything phenol based altogether as these are particularly toxic to marine life.

No, no toilet flushing here....far too big a fish for that!
A worse way actually had to hit it over the head (well actually drop it onto a hard surface)... then because it was dark i couldnt dig a hole to bury him so had to put him in the freezer until the next day!
The worst bits were when he didnt even struggle as i pulled him out of the tank and turning the pump off afterwards. Very strange not hearing that going in the background around the house now.
Hey ho, these things happen though.
A quick picky of the bugger a week or so ago....(thats a 13 gallon tank by the way!)
